Sweet Potato Breeder Senior Research Fellow

Job description

Reporting to the Coordinator of Roots and Tubers Program, the Sweet Potato Breeder Senior Research Fellow has the following job description:

• Design and conduct research of Sweet Potato by implementing breeding, screen house, field trials, and laboratory experiments to produce reliable and accurate data to support innovations development.
• Provide leadership for Sweet Potato commodity research and extensions.
• Collaborate with other researchers in their regular activities including data management and analysis and writing reports and publications.
• Provide trainings to farmers and extension agents for Sweet Potato GAP.
• Train and supervise students in the internship
• Develop research proposal for funds mobilization.
• Prepare weekly, quarterly and annual reports on research activities accomplished.
• Backstop and support extension staff and Sweet Potato value chain actors to mitigate challenges in Sweet Potato sector.
• Participate in relevant meetings, seminars, conferences to enhance the visibility of the institution.
• Carry out a mentorship of young scientist in Roots and Tubers program to upgrade their knowledge and skills.
• Write or contribute to scientific publications for Roots and Tubers crops.
• Ensure the adequate management of resources under his or her responsibilities for the institution clean report.
• Ensure a good budget execution and implementation of institution performance contracts
• Undertake other duties as assigned by the program coordinator and other RAB Senior Managers

Minimum Qualifications
• PhD in Crop sciences
8 Years of relevant experience
• PhD in Plant Biotechnology
8 Years of relevant experience
• PHD in Plant Breeding
8 Years of relevant experience
• PHD in Genetics
8 Years of relevant experience

Small Ruminant Breeding, Physiology and Reproduction Senior Research Fellow

Job description
• Report to the ruminant program coordinator
• Coordinate the development and implementation of participatory research in small ruminant breeding, physiology and reproduction;
• Coordinate monitoring and evaluation of small ruminant breeding, physiology and reproduction activities;
• Ensure mentorship for junior scientists in conception, planning, monitoring and evaluation of ruminant nutrition and production research projects;
• Ensure partnership with national, regional and international stakeholders on the improvement and development of small ruminant breeding, physiology and reproduction technologies and innovations;
• Participate in monitoring and evaluation of disseminated technologies towards improved small ruminant breeding, physiology and reproduction;
• Ensure systems approach to research planning, and evaluation;
• Analyze, publish and disseminate research findings;
• Produce quarter and annual reports-

2 Soil Conservation and Protection Senior Research Fellow

Job description
Reporting to the Program Coordinator of Integrated Soil Fertility Management, the Soil Conservation and protection Senior Research Fellow has the following responsibilities:
• Provide overall leadership and coordination of research and technology transfer activities on Soil Conservation and protection
• Identify research problems on Soil Conservation and protection
• Identify priority areas of interventions in the field of Soil Conservation and protection
• Developing and implementing Soil Conservation and protection research and extension activities in accordance with approved work plans and Imihigo and budgets
• Lead planning and implementation of research and innovations technology promotion and dissemination, knowledge and skills to farmers and other stakeholders in Soil Conservation and protection
• Provide mentorship of scientists and technicians in planning, monitoring and evaluation of Soil Conservation and protection research projects, writing, reviewing and publishing research papers
• Supervise mobilization of financial resources for research and agricultural development through proposal writing on competitive funding;
• Lead development and publishing of research findings in in peer reviewed Journals, Conference proceedings and Book chapters
• Ensure effective and efficient management of resources and assets under his responsibilities
• Participating in developing and implementing the institutional work plan and budget execution of the budget approved, and institutional imihigo and performance contracts
• Participate in meetings, seminars, conferences relevant to field of agricultural research and contribute to raise visibility of RAB in local and international forums;
• Establish and strengthen networks and collaboration/partnerships at national, regional and international levels in the field of Soil Conservation and protection
• Oversee development and outreach communication/dissemination materials in the field of Soil Conservation and protection (radio message, leaflets, policy briefs)
• Ensure promotion of technologies and innovations of Soil Conservation and protection through on-farm demonstration plots
• Establish and maintain effective collaboration and team spirit with other researchers, locally, regionally and internationally
• Build capacity of the scientists/technicians and stakeholders including farmers Soil Conservation and protection
• Prepare, review and submit weekly, quarterly and annual reports on the implementation progress of Soil Conservation and protection;
• Ensure a clean Audit in activities carried by the programme
• Working with the Communication Unit to increase awareness and visibility of the Institution through the work done the programme by various communication tools.
• Undertake other duties as assigned by the Coordinator of program and other RAB Senior Managers.
