Ruminant Nutrition and Production System Principal Research Fellow

Job description
• Report to the coordinator of ruminant program coordinator
• Articulating research in ruminant nutrition and production
• Ensure mentorship for junior scientists in conception, planning, monitoring and evaluation of animal production and conservation research projects;
• Developing and implementing research in accordance with approved work plans and budgets
• Backstopping extensionists in technology dissemination and adaptive research on promising technologies
• Identifying necessary human and infrastructure capacity for ruminant nutrition and production research
• Establish and maintain effective collaboration with other researchers, locally, regionally and internationally;
• Participate in mobilization of financial resources for research through proposal writing for competitive funding;
• Analyze, publish and disseminate research findings;
• Produce quarter and annual reports

• PhD in Animal Sciences

• PhD in Animal Production

• PHD in Animal Feeds Sciences
10 Years of relevant experience

• Having led or contributed to the production and dissemination of eighteen (18) extension materials including technical guidelines, documentary films, and other extension materials for innovations aiming to increase farmers’ production, productivity and resilience capacities
• Being conversant with national and sector policies and development agenda
• Proven experience to work with farmers and industry stakeholders in research and extension
• Capacity in project development and resources mobilization
• Detailed knowledge of animal sciences research areas and agenda
• Knowledge of statistical packages for data analysis and report production
• Proven skills in project and research program management
• Extensive understanding of the National and International context of Research
• Having led the generation of at least three (3) innovations or technologies for animal resources development
• Having led the writing and won at least two (2) projects in animal resources development
