Summary:
The U.S. Embassy in Kigali, Rwanda is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for the position of Trades Helper.

Work schedule is Full time (40 hours per week).
Start date: Candidate must be able to begin working within a reasonable period of time (2 weeks) of receipt of agency authorization and/or clearances/certifications or their candidacy may end.

Duties
• The Trades Helper reports directly to the Locally employed Staff Facilities Maintenance Supervisor.
• The position holder is employed as a Trades Helper to assist the technicians of the skilled trades in the performance of routine and preventive maintenance, and new installations and demolition work.
• The Supervisor will assign the Trades Helper to any of the skilled trade shops on a daily basis to assist the skilled technicians with maintenance and repair work throughout Embassy office buildings, grounds and residential owned/leased properties.
• The Trades Helper performs limited skilled tasks as qualified by on-the-job training.
• In addition to assisting the skilled trade technicians, the Trades Helper may be assigned tasks include material handling, painting, custodial type work, common laborer work, and grounds maintenance work.

Requirements:
• EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 2 years of maintenance or construction semi-skilled work experience in skilled trades such as mechanical (HVAC and Plumbing), electrical and/or carpentry, with significant focus on building systems is required.
• Applicant must possess category B on their driving license and upload a copy of the driving license with the application prior to the closing of Vacancy Announcement.

Education Requirements:
• Completion of secondary school required.
• Evaluations:
• LANGUAGE: Limited knowledge of English writing/speaking/reading is required. Good working knowledge of Kinyarwanda is required. This may be tested.

Qualifications:
• All applicants under consideration will be required to undergo a background investigation. This position requires a Public Trust.

Additional Selection Criteria:
1. The Mission may consider any of the following when determining successful candidacy: nepotism, conflicts of interest, budget, and residency status.
2. Current employees of the Mission who have not successfully completed their initial probationary periods are not eligible to apply. Current employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory or MBC score of 100 points or less, on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.
3. Current employees of the Mission hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment. This does not apply for employees on a PSA (Temp), or those are hired on a When Actually Employed (WAE) or intermittent work schedule.
4. Candidates who are EFMs, USEFMs, AEFMs, or MOHs must have at least one year remaining on their sponsor’s tour of duty to be considered eligible to apply for this position.
