Organisational Context
Under the guidance and supervision of the Head of Conference Services, the Reviser (French) provides translation and revision services for the OACPS Secretariat, ensuring high quality, accurate and consistent work. The Reviser promotes a client-oriented approach consistent with OACPS rules and regulations.

As Team Leader and Head of the French Translation Section, the Reviser supervises and manages the running of the Section, and establishes appropriate working procedures to provide the necessary framework to maintain and enhance productivity. In this regard, s/he interacts with all the other members of the Conference Services unit and with the authors of texts in the Secretariat’s client departments.

Internal contacts are particularly useful for research and clarification purposes. External focus is essential since most of the documents are translated for meetings organised by the Secretariat for agents external to the Secretariat (e.g. Ambassadors, Ministers, etc.). External contacts should also be established with certain EU units with which the Secretariat conducts missions, and also for the organisation of OACPS competitive examinations for recruiting translation staff.

Functions / Key Results Expected
1. Directs, organises, supervises, and allocates work to a team of translators working from English, Portuguese and Spanish into French, focusing on the achievement of the following result:
• Workload is shared as equally as possible among members of the Section.
• Deadlines are respected to the extent possible.

2. Revises translations, proofreads and edits documents from client departments and translates texts covering a broad range of subjects, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
• Quality control ensured and professional-standard documents available for OACPS meetings
• Correction of the work of the translators, ensuring that the translation is in complete conformity with the original and that the ideas and thoughts of the author are faithfully rendered with all their shades of meaning
• Translation of texts requiring experience and recognised proficiency
• Proofreading and editing of documents for distribution as well as articles to be posted on the OACPS’ website.

3. Assesses performance of translators and prepares annual assessment reports; advises and assists in-house translators and freelance translators, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
• Pinpointing of the strengths and weaknesses of translators to better identify development needs
• Timely completion of performance assessment reports
• Briefing of translators on the procedures and practices of the Service, terminology and a broad range of subjects, as required

4. Carries out linguistic research; and compiles a glossary for the OACPS Secretariat, focusing on the achievement of the following results:
• Linguistic research carried out continuously
• Compilation of a glossary (or glossaries) for the OACPS Secretariat
• Participation in the standardisation of terminology

The key results have an impact on the delivery and quality of documents required for OACPS meetings and/or comprehension of texts by in-house staff members.

Education
• Masters degree or the equivalent in Translation, from an internationally recognised school or university.

Experience
• At least eight (8) years’ experience in the field of translation, preferably with at least 5 in an international organization

Language Requirements
• Excellent command of the main working languages (French and English).
• Knowledge of Portuguese or Spanish would be an added advantage.

Assessment
Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed and may be assessed through other methods.

Special Notice
Candidates for the post must be nationals of Member States from the African, Caribbean, and Pacific Regions and must therefore attach a copy of their valid passport for proof of nationality. Applications from non-ACP nationals will not be considered.

Staff Members of the OACPS are subject to the authority of and duties assigned by the Secretary-General and will discharge their functions under conditions established by the Secretary-General.

All employment decisions are made based on the suitability of the candidate and the needs of the OACPS. Due regard will be paid to the importance of recruiting the staff on as wide a geographical basis as possible.

The appointment to this position is for an initial period of 3 years and renewal thereof is subject to the needs of the OACPS and the availability of the post or funds.
