Project background

Women for Women Rwanda (WfW-R) is a local Non-profit Organization committed to improving lives of socially excluded and marginalized women in conflict and post-conflict settings. WfWI/WfW-Rwanda in partnership with The Julius Baer foundation aims at supporting women micro-entrepreneurs in seven districts (Nyaruguru, Muhanga, Gasabo, Kicukiro, Bugesera, Rwamagana and Kayonza) to address wealth inequalities between women and men. The project builds individual women’s social and economic power and influencing the enabling environment for women’s entrepreneurship by building their business and communication skills, confidence, and business network to pitch business ideas to potential investors, negotiate contracts with potential buyers, and influence investors and decision makers.

WfW Rwanda would like to recruit a consultant to deliver the below project's outcomes under Julius Baer Foundation funded project.

 Expected outcomes

  1. Carry out angel investors mapping and other necessary mapping for beneficiaries under the project
  2. Women micro-entrepreneurs equipped with knowledge in supportive policies in advancing inclusive entrepreneurship in Rwanda
  3. Opportunity created to connect the wealthy and the poor, decision makers and project participants through different interactions at the fair
  4. Women micro-entrepreneurs gain information on available opportunities to bridge wealth inequality gaps
  5. Success stories shared to donors about the work done under JBF
  6. Women micro-entrepreneurs have new connections with markets through interactions at the fair
  7. 15 top business plans get awards to boost competitiveness (businesses to be presented at group level to make 20 business plans in the two years

Key activities to be carried out by the consultant

To reach the expected outcomes, the consultant is expected to conduct the following activities

  1. Produce a list of 720 women micro-entrepreneurs from 1440 to attend each training
  2. Train 100 women micro-entrepreneurs in business leadership, negotiation and influencing
  3. Train women micro-entrepreneurs in effective communication, including public speaking and social media usage
  4. Train 80 women micro-entrepreneurs in effective communication, including public speaking and social media usage
  5. Organize a mentorship programme to connect 200 women micro-entrepreneurs with 10 established and successful entrepreneurs to share experiences and guidance
  6. Train 180 women micro-entrepreneurs in contract negotiation with buyers and provide potential buyer referrals and follow up support
  7. Train 80 women micro-entrepreneurs in investor pitch preparation, including business plans
  8. Maintain good cooperation of identified key project partners and identify new ones to support the project (45 in total) and influence in the entrepreneurial ecosystem to become partners and sponsors in this initiative
  9. Ensure market linkage for 280 women agri-preneurs who were supported under practical exercise on good agricultural practices and quality standards and requirements for exportation
  10. Conduct mapping of angel donors in the country and initiate fundraising related initiatives to support business competitions by women
  11. Make reports as required by the grant sub-agreement and work hand in hand with comms and M&E department for required deliverables
  12. Lead in the upgrading the training modules, their translations and validation
  13. Ensure women micro-entrepreneurs are linked to financial institutions as result of finance fair and networking events

Time frame

16th November 2022– 20th Jan 2023 

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • The candidate must be a bachelor's degree in agriculture, economics, rural development or in relevant fields
  • Minimum of 5 years work experience in community development, agriculture value chain works or cooperative management, preferably within the NGO/INGO sector or relevant experience in the private sector.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent spoken and written English and Kinyarwanda
  • Demonstrated experience building the capacity of staff.
  • Independent, can coordinate with others to produce proposals on deadline.
  • Excellent facilitation skills.
  • Computer skills including working with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Email.
