ARC works with its partners and constituencies to provide opportunities and expertise to refugees, displaced people and host communities – to better survive conflicts and crisis, and to rebuild lives of dignity, health, security and self-sufficiency. ARC presently works in and with partners in seventeen countries globally. ARC has consistently operated in Rwanda since 1994, and today has a strong and committed team of over eight hundred personnel who include full time staff and incentive workers, and hundreds of community volunteers – implementing programs in Primary Health Care, Reproductive Health, HIV and Nutrition; also Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Shelter and general Infrastructure, Livelihoods/Economic strengthening, and Sexual and Gender Based Violence / Protection. Our work in Rwanda currently covers all the refugee locations and their kind Rwandan-host communities. And we are always looking to deepen our work and, jointly with our partners, offer lasting impact with and for the communities we serve! ARC is looking for qualified, self-driven and committed individual to join our team in the stated position – based at and to serve full time in the new Gashora Emergency Transit Centre, Bugesera District – Rwanda.
PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Senior Protection Coordinator will be responsible for leading the planning for, design and provision of SGBV prevention and response services and intervention, for the ARC program in the new Gashora Emergency Transit Centre. S/he will be responsible for leading and supporting in identifying protection concerns, documenting, prioritizing timely and client centered services and actions, and offering technical support to the program team on appropriate and adequate prevention and response; also manage the SGBV prevention and response team, and support with program’s administrative tasks. .
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the provision of SGBV prevention and response services at the center including but not limited to creating a safe environment for support seekers.
• Coordinate the provision of quality SGBV services with other agencies and ensure protection is mainstreamed in all services at the center.
• Ensure meaningful and dignified access to services by all persons including persons with specific needs.
• Provide day to day support supervision to all SGBV staff including mentoring, capacity strengthening and self-care. Ensures quality client centered services in line with international standards and best practices.
• Work with all stakeholders to develop, revise and popularize Standard Operating procedures that guide protection work.
• Responsible for timely planning, implementation and reporting on the protection services.
Job Skills:
• Demonstrated project management skills and capability in similar senior roles
• Solid and clearly demonstrated staff/people management skills and experience
• Exemplary command and experience in Humanitarian & protection principles, cutting edge approaches and practices
• The capable communicator in English; including written
• Conversance with French, Tigrinya and/or Arabic, and Kinyarwanda an added advantage
• Self-motivated and client-orientated with a strong sense of personal ethic, integrity, and quality
• Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
• High level of flexibility and tolerance to ambiguity
• Familiarity with effective community mobilization techniques, social change approaches, and human-centered design desired
Required Experience
• Minimum of Master’s degree in Mental health, Psychology, Law, Development or Social Work, or a closely aligned field
• Minimum of six (6) years’ direct experience leading and working in protection work in a humanitarian context.
