Organization Overview
Health Builders is dedicated to addressing three fundamental challenges that prevent universal access to quality primary health care (PHC) services in Rwanda:
Inefficient management of clinical systems
Inadequate or nonexistent health infrastructure and
Outdated technology.
Through a close and collaborative partnership with the Ministry of Health and the local government, Health Builders trains and mentors PHC providers to improve the quality of health care; constructs comprehensive PHC centers where access is limited; and equips PHC centers with system strengthening technology that supports efficient and sustainable operations.
Position Overview
Health Builders is seeking skilled applicants for the following positions to help support the organization and its mission to strengthen Rwanda’s health systems.
The Quality Improvement and Clinical Management Officer will support the quality improvement of health care services provided to patients at the PHC centers in which Health Builders operates. He/she will develop and implement guidelines/tools to be integrated into training and mentorship approaches to ensure that patients receive an acceptable standard of care. .
Specific duties and responsibilities
• Build relationships with the Ministry of Health, the districts, the health facilities, and other partners to establish the best way to implement quality improvement and clinical projects at all Health Builders supported health care centers in Rwamagana, Nyabihu, and Rulindo District together with the existing field team
• Assess and apply existing mechanisms, guidelines and standards available that are relevant to the quality of health care services in Rwanda
• Support in the regular assessment of health care staffing and training needs to address quality in the PHC centers
• Develop methodologies for assessing and improving quality in PHC centers, or enhance the existing methodologies
• Create data collection tools, define monitoring and evaluation methodology
• Train health management advisors team on the “Quality Improvement”
• Train clinical staff on clinical, communication and other necessary skills required to implement health care services
• Support field team with a collection of baseline data and improve the data management abilities at the district and health center level to ensure regular, high-quality data collection and analysis, and timely, strategic response to reporting
• Provide ongoing feedback and revisions of Quality Improvement tools
• Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Job Skills:
• Have a strong commitment to improving the health and lives of vulnerable populations
• Have strong communication skills (written and spoken) in English and Kinyarwanda; French is an added advantage
• Ability to work as part of a team, but also capable of working independently and taking self-initiative, without significant oversight
• Clinical leadership and team management skills
• Ability to problem-solve and approach challenges with imagination
• Capability to multi-task, highly organized, with excellent time management skills, utilizing the available time to organize and complete work within given deadlines
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and email
Required Skills and Experience
• Possess a Bachelors Degree in Nursing or Medicine from an accredited university
• Have at least 3 years of proven clinical experience in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and in assessing the clinical competencies of health facilities
• Hold previous experience training or teaching clinicians and developing clinical tools
• Experience in implementing quality improvement methods and tools
• Experience in supervision and training, using a range of methods
