Course Overview:

This intensive training program is designed to equip Early Childhood Development (ECD) and Nursery professionals in Rwanda with the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to deliver high-quality education and care to young children. The course will focus on the key principles of child development, teaching methods, and the unique learning needs of children aged 0 to 6 years. The program aims to foster a holistic approach to ECD and Nursery Education, ensuring that participants are prepared to create engaging, nurturing, and inclusive learning environments that align with the Rwandan Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE) policy including best practices in teaching and learning in Nursery settings. .

Learning objectives:

By the end of the training, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the stages of early childhood development and their impact on learning.
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate lesson plans and teaching strategies for young children.
  • Apply principles of child-centered learning and play-based methodologies in daily instruction.
  • Foster positive social-emotional development and behavior management in young learners.
  • Create inclusive, safe, and stimulating learning environments for children of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Collaborate with parents and guardians to support children’s holistic growth and development.
  • Understand the role of nutrition, health, and safety in early childhood settings in compliance with Rwandan policies.
  • Assess and monitor children’s progress using appropriate tools and techniques.

Course content:

1.Theories and principles of Early Childhood Development

  • Introduction to Early Childhood Development
  • Key Child Development Theories: Cognitive, Social, Emotional, and Physical Development
  • Understanding the Rwandan Early Childhood Development Policy
  • The importance of play in early learning
  • Designing developmentally appropriate learning experiences

2.Practical approaches to Nursery Education

  • Child-Centered and Play-Based Learning approaches
  • Creating inclusive classrooms: teaching children with special needs
  • Positive behavior management techniques
  • Health, nutrition, and safety in Early Childhood settings
  • Engaging families and communities in ECD
  • Monitoring and assessment of learning outcomes in young children

Training methodology:

The course will use a variety of training methods, including interactive lectures, group discussions, case studies, hands-on activities, role-playing, and classroom observations. Participants will engage in practical exercises and group projects to reinforce their learning and apply the knowledge gained in real-world scenarios.

The training will be led by experienced ECD professionals and education experts who are familiar with both global best practices and local Rwandan contexts.This course will provide a solid foundation for ECD and Nursery professionals, preparing them to positively impact the lives of young children and contribute to Rwanda's goal of providing quality early childhood and nursery education.

Participants are required to cover the total course cost and register prior to the start of the training. The course fee includes all training materials and refreshments during the sessions.
