About OpenMap Development Tanzania
OpenMap Development Tanzania (OMDTZ) is a registered NGO based in Dar es Salaam and operating across Tanzania as well as throughout East Africa. Since its establishment in 2017, OMDTZ has executed and promoted several community mapping projects, generated map awareness, actively pledged open datasets, and continued to build a network of enthusiastic mappers in Tanzania. OMDTZ heavily contributes to the OpenStreetMap platform, which is both a map and database of geographic data owned by contributors on OSM; anyone can view, create, and use this information for free.
We create open datasets for different courses such as disaster response for floods, waste management, etc. to help decision-makers with maps to improve challenges faced by communities on the ground. OMDTZ has promoted several community mapping projects, generates map awareness, actively pledged open data sets, and continue to build a network of enthusiastic mappers in Tanzania.
OMDTZ is also the lead implementer of the Open Skies Fellows project. Open Skies Fellows is a fellowship program run in collaboration with Uhurulabs and the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team, designed to develop youth in urban settings, giving them power and responsibility to gain technical and social skills, so they can leverage the full potential of frontier technologies and help solve community challenges. The program will operate in 3 countries: Tanzania, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, recruiting 40 fellows in 4 cohorts from all the countries.
About the Position
The Outreach Coordinator will be primarily responsible for finding fellows for Open Skies Fellows as well as partners in Rwanda. This position will work closely with OMDTZ’s Executive Director and Open Skies Fellows Project Director and Innovation and Technical Officer to plan and coordinate all Open Skies Fellows activities within Rwanda. Eventual support to other countries may also include Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
As OMDTZ expands the fellowship beyond Tanzania, there is a need to tap into local Rwandan expertise to identify and select the best fellows in Rwanda. Similarly, to identify the right partners, and build strong working relationships, OMDTZ is seeking a Rwandan Outreach Coordinator to lead the community outreach activities. This role will need an outgoing professional who is a team player, with strong social skills and an ability to coordinate diverse activities with minimal supervision.
