Your Role
As Managing Director, Rwanda, you will build, launch, and lead KOKO’s Rwanda operating business. You will be responsible for guiding country strategy, planning, and delivery to turn KOKO Rwanda into a profitable business and national success story.
What You Will Do
• Business Unit Leadership: manage KOKO’s commercial, operational, and administrative functions in Rwanda to deliver a great customer experience, build a profitable business, and cultivate a world class working environment
• Strategic Planning: formulate business strategy for the country business unit and translate strategy into quarterly and annual business plans, including detailed budgets, key initiatives, success metrics, customer pricing proposals, hardware and fuel demand requirements, and hiring priorities
• Commercial Delivery: oversee planning and execution of customer-facing functions (sales, marketing, and customer service) to ensure achievement of revenue and retention targets
• Operational Delivery: oversee planning and execution of warehousing and logistics functions (cookers, fuel, network hardware, and retail) to ensure KOKO goods are transported safely and securely from warehouse to customer and remain in-stock across our entire retail network
• Financial Management: oversee all country business unit spend and lead KOKO Rwanda to profitable operations and achievement of overall budget and unit economic targets Team Leadership: demonstrate positive leadership behaviors and values to build a strong team culture that will enable KOKO to navigate the inevitable challenges that come with rapid growth
• Talent Development: recruit, coach, and mentor the Rwanda leadership team to a high standard of performance and functional excellence and while building a deep leadership bench and helping seed the future leadership of new country business units and global functions
• Internal Partnerships: Work closely with Global KOKO functions, including Product, Engineering, Human Resources, and Finance to ensure a strong culture of collaboration, transparency, and coordination
• External Partnerships: Build long term, trusting relationships with key external stakeholders and government partners who can contribute to KOKO’s business stability and success
• Internal Communications: Drive clarity and alignment throughout the Rwanda organisation around goals, strategy, and priorities to enable our teams to work together toward common objectives
What You Will Bring To KOKO
• University degree in relevant field, such as Engineering or Business (Master’s preferred)
• 20+ years of experience in a related field, with a demonstrated track record of success
• 15+ years of management experience building and mentoring teams
• Comfort working in a fast-paced, high-growth environment, ideally with prior experience at a growth-stage startup or multinational corporate
• Aptitude for cross-functional management, including ability to identify activities that matter most and keep teams focused on delivering top priorities on-time and to the highest standard
• Excellent critical analytical thinking and communications skills
• Ownership mindset and comfort in a fast-paced, growth-stage startup environment
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to bridge gaps across cultures and backgrounds
• Deep network of colleagues and partners who would be eager to join you at KOKO or support our growth efforts
