Summary:
• The U.S. Mission in Kigali is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for position of Lead Maintenance Technician.
• The work schedule for this position is Full time (40 hours per week).

Duties
• The incumbent provides full supervision of 8 multi-trade technicians and tradesmen.
• Oversight of journeyman level installation, preventive and routine maintenance, and routine and urgent repairs on facilities, systems, and equipment in Government Owned and Operational Lease office and residential properties.
• S/he is knowledgeable of electrical, mechanical, and structural trades including methods, materials, and tools.
• Detailed knowledge in electrical safety, diagnostics, codes, methods, installations, repairs, and maintenance.
• S/he establishes and enforces journeyman level electrical standards for government properties in accordance with International Building Codes.
• Reports to Maintenance Superintendent and substitutes for Maintenance Superintendent in his absence.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:
• A minimum of 3 years journeyman level electrician skilled trades in maintenance or construction work. Listed experience must include minimum one year multi-trade experience.
• Listed experience must include one year in supervisory capacity for work involving large office, commercial facility, or similar complex or compound according to international construction standards with use of drawings and specifications such as International Building Code (IBC) or similar standards.
Education Requirements:
Completion of secondary school is required. Completion of vocational training or apprenticeship leading to a Journeyman Level Certificate as an electrician is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:
• Level III (Good working knowledge) Written/speaking/reading of English and Kinyarwanda is required. (This may be tested)
• A hands-on skills test will be conducted for candidates invited for interview.
Qualifications:
All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications and complete a mandatory probationary period for LE Staff.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA:
• The Mission may consider any of the following when determining successful candidacy: nepotism, conflicts of interest, budget, and residency status.
• Current employees of the Mission who have not successfully completed their initial probationary periods are not eligible to apply. Current employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory or MBC score of 100 points or less, on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.
• Current employees of the Mission hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment. This does not apply for employees on a PSA (Temp), or those are hired on a When Actually Employed (WAE) or intermittent work schedule.
• Candidates who are EFMs, USEFMs, AEFMs, or MOHs must have at least one year remaining on their sponsor’s tour of duty to be considered eligible to apply for this position.
