We are a global company applying our successful model of landscape restoration to contribute to three of the world’s most critical environmental problems: the need for effective solutions to mitigate global climate change; holistic restoration of the world’s most degraded landscapes; and a growing population that requires sustainable alternatives for consumer products and markets that still contribute to deforestation and deforestation driven emissions. We have spent the last decade building the framework for bamboo to be a solution to achieve this through sustainable bamboo farms in Nicaragua, South Africa, Ghana and the Philippines.

In Rwanda, our projects are environmentally and socially impact focused without any commercialization of the planted bamboo. These projects are designed to take our decade of lessons learned and provide environmental solutions that protect watersheds through riparian buffer zone plantings and expanding the bamboo forest habitat of endangered Mountain Gorillas. At the same time, these projects are creating long-term employment opportunities and establishing community development programs that work towards holistic and sustainable rural development.

We are currently expanding our Rwanda projects through the restoration of 1,000 hectares of riparian bamboo buffer zones, to be planted in 2022 and 2023 and are seeking an experienced forest management professional to join our team as General Manager of our Rwandan operations. This will be the most senior role in Rwanda with responsibility for overseeing all aspects of operational planning, coordination and implementation of field silvicultural activities from land preparation to planting to maintenance as well as overseeing social impact projects, administration and project reporting.

Responsibilities
Bamboo Reforestation Operations
• Oversight and responsibility of nursery activities for seedlings for planting.
• Management and oversight of field coordination of teams for all silvicultural aspects.
• Work with EcoPlanet’s corporate team to develop project plans and oversee their execution for all aspects of operations from planting operations to long term maintenance.
• Manage the complex logistics of operations that span vast spatial diversity, due to the nature of riparian plantings.
• Adherence to EcoPlanet Bamboo’s culture of positive environmental and social impact, and mmanagement of all operations in line with Company Standard Operating Procedures, Environmental Health & Safety Procedures and FSC principals.
• Engage with stakeholders of the project, including national and local government entities.
• Create and implement community engagement plans and programs to maximize impact and create positive presence within the areas of influence for the project with a focus on regenerative farming.

Administration
• Management of all in-country legal aspects relating to company operations.
• With the finance manager, develop annual budgets for approval.
• Oversee the implementation of these budgets with continued efforts to improve efficiency associated with project activities.
• Hire and oversee staff required for efficient expansion.
• Provision of weekly and monthly reporting on all operational and financial achievements.
• Preparation of project reports, monitoring reports, feasibility reports and other project reporting as may be required.

Qualifications
EcoPlanet Bamboo is seeking a self-motivated individual with a high level of personal responsibility for this role. In addition, the candidate must have the following qualifications:

• A degree in forestry, project management or other related field with 7+ years’ experience managing forestry, reforestation and / or related projects.
• Strong leadership and management skills to coordinate field activities and direct teams to successful project completion.
• Organized and highly detail orientated with good writing ability and communication skills.
• Strong capacity to communicate with government agencies, local communities and other stakeholders.
• Ability to travel internationally to other operations and to assist in cross country learning.
• A desire to be working hands on in the field – rain or shine.
• Driving license, with clean driving record.
• Excellent cross-cultural and people skills, commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion at both a project and institutional level.
• Ability to work in a fast paced environment as part of a multi-national Company
• Experience with GIS, and Microforest software, a plus.
