2. Context
With support from GIZ, the government of Rwanda through the Ministry of ICT and Innovation (MINICT) and the Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) would like to roll out a robotics program in Rwandan primary, secondary and TVET schools. The program aims to enhance students' understanding of the Science and Elementary Technology (SET) and Computer Science subjects using robotics kits, coding content, and practical experiments.
The national robotics program in schools is a forward-thinking initiative that will introduce students in primary, secondary and TVET schools to the concepts of STEM, help students develop important skills such as problem-solving, programming, design, and mechanics, help students develop an interest in technology, and encourage them to pursue careers in related fields. Additionally, robotics is vital for preparing students for the future and equipping them with skills that are essential in today's rapidly evolving job market. In recent years, robotics is slowly being taken up more in schools, with companies even offering bootcamps for children to attend during their school breaks or as an after-school program.
It is in that regard that GIZ through MINICT seeks to support the establishment of a robotics maker space that will be instrumental in the implementation of the said national robotics program. This maker space (lab) will be used by teachers and innovators from different schools to design, prototype, and test various locally made robotics oriented didactic material. Hence the need to procure said equipment.
