Project Background WFP and Cordaid have an ongoing collaboration since 2016 to link financial service providers to producer organizations for finance in the value chain. Agricultural cooperatives in Rwanda and in other African countries face several challenges including low productivity of members, limited access to markets for their products, lack of adequate management and limited access to finance. Access to a comprehensive range of financial services is a challenge for smallholder members in cooperatives. The collaboration between WFP and CORDAID aimed to overcome these challenges by assisting the farmers to establish farmer savings groups and working with financial service providers. The overall goal of the WFP funded projects to CORDAID is to ensure that smallholder farmers, especially women, have improved access to inputs and markets and equipment including technical support and financial services and loans for pre-and post-harvest equipment for women, allowing them to increase their marketable surplus.
