Education sector is facing enormous challenges in terms of low income despite the effort of the government of Rwanda to increase the salary of workers in Education. Besides, the working conditions are often poor and minimum especially in rural area where some infrastructure is missing. Those negative factors affect in general all workers and especially women in the above mentioned sector.
Basically, achieving decent work would require upholding workers ‘rights but also to improve working condition, most probably to provide a sufficiently high minimum wage. The status quo needs to be assessed to effect sector-wide change. For these reasons, FES Rwanda in collaboration with COTRAF Rwanda under the EU funded project entitled “Social Dialogue 4 Sustainable Development (SD4SD): Promoting effective social dialogue, strengthening social protection, and enforcing the national and international labor standards in Rwanda” commissioned studies on labor condition in education and the findings are used to engage in constructive dialogue with decision makers. Indeed, Policymaking to improve the living condition in education sectors requires an integrated views of people who are faced with policy choices on issues affecting workers in that sector and who can use findings of studies to make the best decisions.
It is against this background, FES and COTRAF-Rwanda seek the service of a national consultant or a consortium of 2 national consultants to develop and present a set of actionable policy recommendations (minimum 5 actionable recommendation) based on the findings of the study to a range of stakeholders namely political decision makers, member of parliament and other relevant ministries.
This policy recommendations presents evidence and recommendations emerging from the research undertaken on labor and living conditions of workers in t education sectors and the presentation will be in a form of one day workshop for decision makers to discuss concrete recommendations in order to be understood as an advice to improve the living condition of workers in tea and education sectors.
Participants
Participants are 25 various decision makers namely political decision makers, member of parliament and other relevant ministries.
Date and venues
The Conference is scheduled to take place 11 th September 2023 at Grand Ubumwe Hotel.
