Ampersand manages a fleet of batteries that our moto drivers change at one of our many Swap Stations. These batteries are used by more than 700 vehicles across multiple countries, which make close to 3 million km every month and swapped thousands of times a day. We are on our way to release more than 3000 batteries and vehicles this year.
Ampersand is establishing an internal academy to offer comprehensive training in motorcycle-specific fields, covering both theory and practical aspects based on a dual system. The academy is the first of its kind in East Africa and is dedicated to providing high-quality technical training and professional development opportunities to technicians, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in their careers and contribute to the growth and success of Ampersand.
The role of the EV Motorcycle Mechanics Curriculum Contractor is to develop the academy's curriculum in collaboration with stakeholders, ensuring that it meets the organization's needs. The contractor is expected to deliver a comprehensive curriculum within three months.
Reporting to the Head of Ampersand Academy. Your objectives will include the following:• Conduct research on EV motorcycle mechanics and related topics to develop an understanding of the subject matter and identify best practices.
• Work with the academy's stakeholders to identify the needs of the target audience and develop learning objectives and clear goals for the curriculum.
• Develop a comprehensive curriculum that covers all aspects of EV motorcycle mechanics, customized to meet the specific needs of the East African market, with a dual approach that combines both theoretical and practical components.
• Develop detailed course modules materials, including presentations, handouts, assignments, and assessments.
• Work with Head of EV Academy and relevant stakeholders to ensure accuracy and completeness of the curriculum.
• Review and revise the curriculum as necessary to ensure its relevance and effectiveness.
• Provide training and support to instructors to ensure they are equipped to deliver the curriculum effectively (optional).

Minimum requirementsAcross all our roles, we look for professionals with strong work ethics, and the ability to manage shifting priorities and unforeseen challenges. For this role specifically, you will have:
• Bachelor’s degree in education, or related field or relevant experience
• Proven experience in curriculum development in a technical field
• Knowledge of motorcycle mechanics and related technologies, EV experience is a plus
• Strong communication skills with a supportive and nurturing disposition
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Experience in instructional design methodologies and modern teaching methods is desired
• Fluency in English is mandatory; Kinyarwanda and Swahili would be a plus (Bonus) Experience in a start-up environment
TimingASAP - a 3 month contract, potentially extendable to 5 months

A competitive compensation package commensurate with East African market rates and experience.
