PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

CLOSURE OF OPERATIONS OF MARYLAND GLOBAL INITIATIVES CORPORATION (MGIC) IN RWANDA

The Maryland Global Initiatives Corporation (MGIC), a nonprofit affiliate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB), registered in Rwanda on October 1^st, 2012, as an International Non-Governmental Organization with registration number 033/RGB/17, hereby announces its intention to close down its operations in Rwanda.

Since its registration on October 1^st, 2012, MGIC has successfully implemented various projects aimed at strengthening and institutionalising national, provincial, and district HIV oversight and delivery systems, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, through funding from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the United Nations Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF).

As of October 2022, most of MGIC’s projects were completed, with the exception of the UNICEF – University of Maryland Baltimore Partnership to Implement Quality Improvement Strategy in PMTCT, which focused on addressing priority gaps in 15 high-volume ART clinics in Kigali. With the successful conclusion of this project and other activities, the MGIC Board of Directors has decided to close down all operations in Rwanda.

In compliance with Article 36, paragraph (1)(d) of Law n° 058/2024 of 20/06/2024 governing non-governmental organisations (the “NGO Act”), MGIC hereby informs the public of its forthcoming closure. This announcement will be followed by the submission of all required documents to the Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) to finalise the closure process.

The final closure of MGIC’s operations will take place within 90 days of this announcement.
