Role brief
The role of th
e Category Manager is to support the Head of the Division in growing the Connect business line to become a core part of the Bboxx proposition. The Bboxx Connect product offering consists of two elements:

Hardware: smartphones or other devices such as tablets and accessories
Software: which enables the locking/unlocking of the phones

Supporting with these elements, the Category Manager will work alongside the rest of the Connect Team to ensure we are delivering a competitive proposition in each of our markets and allowing our customers to connect to the mobile internet in an affordable and reliable way. The role is a combination of Product Development (40%), Technical Development (40%) and Account Mgmt (20%).

Key Responsibilities
• Product Development (40% of time)
• Be the in-house product expert for the Connect category – understand the landscape for devices (brands, models, specs) and relevant software (locking tools, apps s etc.) and use this knowledge to advise the Head of Division and OpCos on product strategy
• Collaborate with the Head of Division, Product Expansion Manager and the Connect Market Researcher to develop new products and services that would strengthen our Connect proposition
• Support the Head of Division in assessing in the business impact of new product and services offerings
• Ensure that we are implementing the best systems and processes to deliver a best in class product offering to our customers

Technical Development (40% of time)
Ensure that we have a suitable technical solution to deliver a reliable service to our customers and successfully manage our customer portfolios. In the short term, this means supporting with technical requests related to our PowerApps solution. Longer term, it will mean engaging with our Software Delivery team to ensure Pulse is developed in a suitable way to facilitate the growth the Connect business line.

Key tasks
• Analysing business requirements to identify new functions & features that need to be developed in the Pulse platform to enable the scaling of the Connect business line
• Working with the Head of Division to identify requirements for integrating third-party software for Connect into Pulse
• Collaborating with software development Product Owners (POs) and Scrum Masters to translate these requirements and ensure new functions and integrations are completed on time

Account Management (20% of time)
• Work with OpCos to find solutions to problems that are escalated to Group level
• Centralise the knowledge we have learned on implementing Connect across our NGUs – managing a library of documents that enable training and knowledge sharing, such as:
• Operational process maps
• Customer journey maps
• Customer and call centre best practices
• Troubleshooting guides
• Legal templates

Training Documents
• Collaborate with the Product Expansion manager to support the onboarding of OpCos as we launch Connect in new markets
• Support the Product Expansion Manager in implementing pilots or tests of new customer propositions on an ad hoc basis, working closely with the Hardware Delivery, Software Delivery and Supply Chain teams
• Coordinate with other Group functions (supply chain, marketing, finance) on an ad hoc basis to ensure we are delivering a good service to the OpCo

What We Are Looking For
• Strong passion in solving problems and designing solutions for underserved communities around the world, especially in developing countries.
• Personal experience from living and/or working in a developing country

• Minimum bachelor’s degree preferably in a quantitative or software field (e.g. math, statistics, computer science)
• 3+ years’ experience working on mobile telco projects such as smartphone financing or app development
• 3+ years’ experience working directly with software development teams, e.g. communicating requirements for new software features to developers (experience with the agile methodology is a plus)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English (fluency in French a plus).
• Basic analytical skills with experience using tools such as Excel and Power Point to analyse data, share it with the team and generate meaningful insights
