Summary:
• The U.S. Mission in Kigali is seeking eligible and qualified applicants for position of Carpenter.
• The work schedule for this position is Full time (40 hours per week).

Duties
• Performs journeyman level carpentry, preventive and routine maintenance, and routine and urgent repairs on buildings and structures, roofs, windows, doors, hardware, locks, floorings, cabinetry and furniture in GO and STL office and residential properties.
• Knowledgeable of various commercial and residential roof systems, metal and wooden doors and windows, locks and hardware, and all architectural finishes.
• Knowledgeable of all tools of trade and methods assumed by experience as a journeyman level carpenter.
• Performs as craftsman on crafted repairs for which standard components are unavailable.
• The incumbent will receive daily supervision from the Locally Employed Staff (LES) Maintenance Supervisor.
Qualifications and Evaluations
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of 2 years journeyman level carpentry skilled trades in maintenance or construction work is required. Listed experience must include work involving large office, commercial facility, or similar complex or compound according to international construction standards with use of drawings and specifications such as International Building Code (IBC) or similar standards.
Education Requirements:
Completion of secondary school is required.
Evaluations:
LANGUAGE:
• English and Kinyarwanda level III (Good working knowledge) Written/Speaking/Reading is required. (This may be tested)
• Must have a valid local driver's license.
• A hands-on skills test will be conducted for candidates invited for interview.
Qualifications:
All applicants under consideration will be required to pass medical and security certifications and complete a mandatory probationary period for LE Staff.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA:
• The Mission may consider any of the following when determining successful candidacy: nepotism, conflicts of interest, budget, and residency status.
• Current employees of the Mission who have not successfully completed their initial probationary periods are not eligible to apply. Current employees with an Overall Summary Rating of Needs Improvement or Unsatisfactory or MBC score of 100 points or less, on their most recent Employee Performance Report (EPR) are not eligible to apply.
• Current employees of the Mission hired on a Family Member Appointment (FMA) or a Personal Service Agreement (PSA) are not eligible to apply within the first 90 calendar days of their employment. This does not apply for employees on a PSA (Temp), or those are hired on a When Actually Employed (WAE) or intermittent work schedule.
• Candidates who are EFMs, USEFMs, AEFMs, or MOHs must have at least one year remaining on their sponsor’s tour of duty to be considered eligible to apply for this position.
