Call for application for Youth Academy for Social Protection to Promote Decent Work Principles Among Young Professionals1. Why this program for youth?
In a world of rapid change, access to information for young people is much needed to foster thoughtful, productive, and engaged citizens. At the same time decent working conditions and labour standards continue to be threatened in many areas. In the world of work, young people everywhere need to develop a greater breadth of knowledge and skills to strengthen social dialogue, social protection and promote decent work in all sectors. Today`s youth, indeed will be tomorrow`s decision makers and actors. If fundamental and structural changes should occur, it must be insured that those who will take responsibility in the future are prepared, trained and capable.
To increase the understanding of young professional and trade unionists around issues related to the world of work, labor relations and social dialogue, FES and COTRAF under the project entitled “Social Dialogue 4 Sustainable Development (SD4SD): Promoting Effective Social Dialogue, Strengthening Social Protection, and Enforcing the National and International Labour Standards in Rwanda” seek to set up a “Youth Academy” for social protection to promote decent work principles among youth professionals.

A final selection of committed young professionals and trade unions with high potential of promoting social dialogue and decent work principles will be based on recommendations from employers or union representatives to ensure their commitment. The prospect young professionals will be provided with training that will cover different topics namely: Rwanda labour law, ILO core labour standards, Negotiation techniques, social dialogue, and Sustainable Development Goal 8 (SDG8)
The training has the aim to provide a space for learning, reflection, and discussion among youth on the topic of decent work and social dialogue. Participants will learn not only through the training but also by sharing experience and good practice among themselves and through knowledge sharing, youth will be empowered to be tomorrow`s decision makers and actors with zeal and enthusiasm to contribute to the decent work debate. At the end of the cohort training, participants will get a certificate of participation.
Training ApproachFES and Cotraf are offering a 6-month training around the overall topic “Social protection to promote decent work principles among young professionals”, from November 2022 to April 2023.
The training is divided into 3 cohorts1st Cohort starts in November ends December 2022
2nd Cohort starts in January ends February 2023
3rd Cohort starts in March ends April 2023
2. Training Objectives
• To create a pool of young professional who receive intensive training on social protection and decent
• To increase understanding of the participants about labour law movement and trade union’s philosophy.
• To give young professionals a platform and exposure to various labour laws and standards aspects.
4. Participants:Up to 20 youth participants who already have some knowledge and experience around labor related issues and trade unionism will be selected for each cohort from different professional background including Civil servants from Ministries & districts, Academia, Media, Trade Unions, Private Sector, universities (incl. students).
5. Working language: English
6. Age range: 18– 30 years old
