Call for Proposals/Deadline 2.7 2024

Rwanda Media Viability Programme 2024-2025/Media houses

Fojo Media Institute/RMP is announcing a call for proposal for privately owned media houses in Rwanda to apply for participation in the Rwanda Media Viability Programme 2 to be implemented from September 2024 to December 2025.

The objective of the RMVP 2 is to advance the media management standards of operating private media houses in a strategic, audience-centric, inclusive, innovative, and financially viable way based on professional journalism.

Over the 15-month period 6 selected private media houses will get targeted support to implement a strategic change project proposed by the company. The project support will involve media expert advice, mentoring and training in the media house and online to realize project goals. The support will also entail inspiration from regional/international media markets.

We encourage applicants to consider:

  • Projects involving a broad and diverse group of the organisation from management to individual journalists/editors to commercial and technical staff.
  • Strategic projects aiming for making a difference and stand out in the Rwandan media market and involve experimentation and new innovative ways to connect with the target group and be able to monetize it for future viability.
  • Projects using data and insights from the RMP Media Consumption surveys 2002-2024 and further interactions/cocreation with target audience for the project.

Besides the inhouse project support the selected six media houses and its staff will get free access to all RMVP training modules held over the 15 months period in Kigali within specific themes and subjects of media management and journalism. These events will be open for other participants too, but upon selection/application.

Criteria for applicants:

  • A legal entity with all legal requirements in place to run a media company in Rwanda.
  • Minimum fulltime staff of 12.
  • A company strategy plan in place or in progress.
  • A detailed project description within the format attached.
  • Participants of RMVP 1 can apply but will be judged equally to other applicants. Community Radios cannot apply as a separate call will be targeted this media type.

Questions? Please contact RMP’s media coordinator Fulgence Niyonagize niyonfulg@gmail.com or the overall programme coordinator Jonas Nyman jonas.nyman@lnu.se.

Application should be sent to Sören Östergaard Sörensen soren.ostergaardsorensen@lnu.se and named Proposal RMVP II.
