Job Title: Business Development Officer
Reporting to: Executive Director
Based at: Nyabihu District with frequent travels to Kigali
Contract: 9 months with opportunity for a 12-month renewal
About Empowering Children with Disabilities:
Empowering Children with Disabilities ( EmCD) is local non-governmental organisation whose vision is to have children with dreams and parents with hope. Our primary mission is to empower children with disabilities to access quality education and be socio -economically integrated in the Rwandan community.
We do this through various activities that include mainly
To increase the awareness for the rights of children with communication disabilities and/or hearing impairments within the
To prepare those children for mainstream schools (inclusive education) and vocational
To advocate for children and youth with communication and/or hearing
Purpose:
The Business Development Officer’s (BD) roole is to strengthen EmCD’s financial operations and acumen through the development of a clear and attainable business plan. The BDO is also responsible for leading the organisation to diversify its sources of income and build the capacity of the organisation‘s staff. The aim is to ensure sustainable operations within 3 years’ time..

Main Responsibilities:
Strategic development
• Work with the Senior Management Team at EmCD to develop a 3 -year income strategy
• Conduct market research for income-generating ideas for the Nyabihu Deaf School
• Advise the Senior Management Team on profitable income -generating activities
• Develop a business and implementation work plan for the Nyabihu Deaf School
• Fundraising and Networking
• Represent EmCD at district and national platforms
• Organise and attend meetings with key stakeholders in the sector of education, disability rights, child rights and inclusion
• Work with EmCD staff to identify marketing and public relations opportunities; and promote projects where possible
• Work closely with the Senior Management Team to support the development of proposals for potential donors
• Utilise social and online channels to promote EmCD’s work and target key stakeholders and donors
• Work closely with EmCD Senior Management Team to grow the profile of EmCD across Rwanda
• Capacity Building
• Provide business and fundraising training for EmCD staff
• Train Senior Management Team staff to write well -articulated donor reports
• Develop relevant documents (proposal templates, presentations) for resource mobilisation / fundraising
• Financial Oversight
• Work closely with EmCD’s Administrator to ensure quality book -keeping and reporting to donors
• Advise Senior Management Team on issues concerning financial situation
• Oversee finances, including income and expenditures


Qualifications: Essential
• University degree in Business Administration
• Ability to demonstrate previous experience developing business plans for child rights organisations and / or schools
• Possess track records in delivering successful business and communication strategies, and achieving KPI targets
• Ability to analyse and report on income figures
• Experience in managing budgets and forecasting
• Experience in self -generating funding opportunities
• Ability to deliver training and/or presentations
• Ability to build relationships with peers and external contacts
• Ability to work to tight deadlines
• Self-motivated
• Effective and efficient time management
• Excellent written and spoken English and Kinyarwanda
• IT fluency
• Desired
• Degree in Finance Administration or Accounting
• Knowledge of Quickbooks
• Experience working in a child rights organisation
• Fluent in French
