ARC Technician
INTRODUCTION
ARC Power is an off-grid solar mini-grid company working to provide affordable, clean, and reliable energy to customers in rural areas across Rwanda. Founded in 2017, and operational since 2018, we have been working to connect as many communities as possible to our power systems so that they can access the full benefits of grid-style electricity, but that's generated without the use of fossil fuels.
Now, ARC Power is in a position to expand and targets connecting 20,000 homes to power in the next 18 months, therefore we have a number of exciting positions coming available.
THE ROLE
The ARC Technician works within the ARC Team, reporting to the ARC Lead (ARCL) and working under the supervision of the ARC Engineer. Their primary role is to conduct all activities required to physically manage the commissioning and operation of ARC Power's solar generation plants known as 'ARCs'.
The successful candidate will be someone with an A2 and/or bachelor’s degree diploma in electricity and/or renewable energy.
ARC Power is ultimately looking for a candidate with multitasking, innovative and creative skills.
THIS ROLE IS PERMANENTLY BASED IN GATSIBO DISTRICT
Responsibilities:
1. Implementation and commissioning of Sites and ARCs
1. Support the movement of infrastructure and components to site in line with project planning documentation and manage exceptions.
2. Perform all aspects of ARC build and commissioning.
3. Undertake testing procedures.
4. Complete and manage Health and Safety protocols for each ARC and Site.
2. ARC Operations and Maintenance (O&M) of ARCs
1. Support development of O&M protocols, standards, and processes.
2. Undertake OOM tasks
3. Undertake maintenance on ARCs proactively and ad-hoc in response to incidents.
3. Managing ARC Team infrastructure and assets.
1. Managing stores and equipment inventories.
4. ARC monitoring and optimization.
1. Monitor ARC operation on a day-to-day basis.
2. Report and escalate operational issues.
5. Technical Support & Training
1. Provide technical support within Network Operations Centre (NOC).
2. Support development of risk assessments and risk management plans.
3. Attend and document training courses internationally.
4. Undertake online training courses.
5. Develop ARC Team training materials.
REQUIRED SKILLS
Essential:
• At least 3 years of experience in electricity and renewable energy
• Should have an A2 degree and/or bachelor's degree in electrical engineering and renewable energy.
• Experience in building and commissioning off-grid systems.
• Experience in undertaking electrical testing procedures
• Proficient in computer skills
• Ability to speak Kinyarwanda and English fluently
• Willingness to live and work permanently in Gatsibo district
Desirable:
• Demonstrated ability to write reports, project briefs in English, and timely submission.
• Team player with good interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and support other team members.
• Ability to establish a learning culture and to facilitate knowledge sharing, self-motivation, energetic and hard work.
• A driving license Class A (motorcycles)
REMUNERATION
The ARC Technician remuneration package is as follows:
• Gross pay before all tax and deductions:
o RWF 250,000 per month payable monthly in arrears on the last day of the month.
• RSSB healthcare (with 15% employee contribution)
