(REOI) NELSAP-CU Finance and Accounting Intern.1. Background
The Nile Basin Initiative (NBI)/ Nile Equatorial Lakes Subsidiary Action Program Coordination Unit (NELSAP-CU) has received a grant from the World Bank through the Cooperation in International Waters in Africa (CIWA) Trust Fund to finance the Nile Cooperation for Climate Resilience (NCCR) Project.
NELSAP-CU is now in the process of recruiting a Finance/Accounting Intern to support the Finance Unit in implementation of NBI Finance policy and Finance plans for the different projects/ programs coordinated by NELSAP including the Nile Cooperation for Climate Resilience (NCCR) Project. This intern position is open to Rwanda Nationals wishing to develop a career in Finance / Accounting. The position is open to fresh graduates who are enthusiastic, dynamic with or without experience in Finance. The intern should be a graduate who has not exceeded 3 years since graduation.
2. Duties & Responsibilitiesi. File source documents and journal vouchers which should be properly kept in order to provide evidence for the occurrence of financial transaction,
ii. Assist in Bank Reconciliation preparations
iii. Prepare, file, and follow up with VAT Claims.
iv. Enter transactions in the accounting system that lead to preparation of project reports and financial statements.
v. Prepare Internal memo for payment and follow up on memos that are ready for payment.
vi. Assist on preparation of monthly bank account reconciliation reports.
vii. Processing payments and ensure timely delivery of cheques to bona fide beneficiaries
viii. Any other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor from time to time

4. Accountability, Reporting and Relationships
The Finance/Accounting Intern will report and shall be accountable to the Finance and Administration Manager with key relationships with the Financial Accountant and Finance Accountant Assistant for NELSAP CU.
5. Qualifications, knowledge, skills, and years of experience requiredi. Possession of at least Bachelor’s degree (at least Second class lower) in Finance, Accounting Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business Administration, from a recognised University. For those who are yet to graduate, proof of statement of results up to final year is required.
ii. Possession of professional accountancy certificate (CPA/ACCA) at level II is an added advantage.
iii. Knowledge in accounting software; Microsoft Dynamics 365 is and added advantage.
iv. Skills in audit and tax is an added advantage.
v. Good interpersonal and communication skills and ability to involve key stakeholders.
vi. Ability to maintain concentration on work subject to frequent interruptions.
vii. Ability to work in a multi-task and multi-deadline environment.
viii. Ability to set goals towards meeting set deadlines.
ix. Fluency in English with working knowledge of French.
x. Excellent writing, analytical, presentation, and reporting skills; and
xi. Demonstrated Computer Proficiency.
xii. Applicants must be below 30 years at the date of application.
6. Duty Station and Employment TermsThe staff position is stationed at the NELSAP–CU Offices in Kigali, Rwanda, but may travel in the Nile Equatorial Lakes Region. The Finance Intern will be engaged with NELSAP for initial period of 3 months, however upon satisfactory performance, need for service and availability of funds, the Intern may be offered more serving time.
