Terms of Reference: Retainer for photographic services in Rwanda

Organization background:

BRAC is the world’s largest, and leading development organization dedicated to poverty alleviation and empowerment of the poor. Initiated in Bangladesh in 1972, BRAC now operates in 11 countries across Asia and Africa. To counter poverty and promote social empowerment, BRAC strategically integrated development programs in microfinance, agriculture, health, education, human rights and legal aid, community empowerment, and more. Stichting BRAC International is registered with RGB for NGO operations within Rwanda and started operations in Rwanda in 2022. 

Duties and Responsibilities

The service provider will be contracted to film, shoot videos and capture pictures during BRAC activities, on demand, whenever invited for engagements, and the ownership of the work created shall reside within BRAC International.

The service provider agrees that the pictures and videos captured during the contract period are the exclusive property of BRAC International and the service provider has no right or obligation to resell footage or claim creation of the footage. Service providers will deliver final products in hard copies, online or copies saved onto USB flash drives, whichever mode is requested by the client.

The recruited service provider(s) will work closely with the Program Manager, Project Coordinator and Regional Managers. 

The scope of work under this retainer will be limited to the following.

  1. Video coverage
  2. Photography
  3. Filming
  4. Training on photographic services and social media management

Responsibilities:

  • Familiarize themselves with BRAC values, mission, vision and programmatic activities.
  • At the direction of BRAC colleagues, take photographs, produce high quality videos.
  • Carry out video and photography trainings for BRAC staff.
  • Create a training for field staff with no background knowledge in photography
  • Travel may be required throughout the country to the sites of implementation, and this could include but is not limited to: Huye, Ruhango, Nyanza, Rusizi, Ngororero and Nyabihu districts.

Do-No-Harm Approach: As BRAC adheres to the do-no-harm principle, the potential risks to participants linked to this analysis and mitigation plans to overcome risks should be outlined.

Expected Outcome

The winning bid will produce high-quality photos and videos to be used in BRAC internal and external documentation of activities, reporting and other activities as needed.

Knowledge and skills required from individual consultant or firm /company

  • Having a qualification or comparable experience in photography, videography and journalism.
  • Experience working in photography.
  • Cultural sensitivity and understanding of the Rwandan context.
  • Able to work and provide the required assignment respecting the deadlines.
  • Provide RDB certificate if it is a company.
  • Completion certificate for a similar assignment.
  • Fluency in English and Kinyarwanda.
  • Excellent proofreading skills.

The following eligibility criteria shall apply:

  • Experience with creating person-centered and engaging content, ability to support the design of engaging visuals to enhance participant learning
  • Self-starter with a proven track record of delivering high-quality photos and video deliverables on time

  • RDB certificate for companies or TIN number for individual consultants
