TERMS OF REFERENCE
Rwanda Organic Agriculture Movement (ROAM) is a National Umbrella Organization established in 2007 to respond to the needs expressed by different stakeholders in the agro ecology/organic sector (producers, farmers, processors, exporters and importers) to have an organized and more focused movement to spearhead the stimulation, development and promotion of the agro ecology/ organic sector in Rwanda. ROAM started to operate as a legally registered non-governmental organization in 2014. ROAM has a mandate to promote the agro ecology/organic sector in Rwanda and intervenes in activities related to raise awareness amongst the population on the benefits of agro ecology/organic agriculture, provide capacity building to organic value chain actors, strengthen synergies and networking amongst the agro ecology/organic value chain actors, advocate for mainstreaming agro ecology / organic into National agriculture policies, strategies and programs.

ROAM’s Mission
Develop and Promote the Ecological Organic Agriculture (EOA) as a Farming Method that Sustains the Health of Soils, Ecosystems and People.
Agroforestry systems play a vital role in soil health improvement. By introducing a diverse range of tree species, we aim to enhance soil fertility, reduce erosion, mitigate the impact of climate change on agricultural productivity as well as promote biodiversity and enhance ecosystem.
ROAM is implementing a landscape restoration project under the TerraFund for AFR100 program entitled “Landscape Restoration for Resilient and Sustainable Farming Systems in Rutsiro District”. The promotion of agroforestry farming system in Rutsiro District will address challenges related to land slide, soil fertility, climate change and food insecurity. The project will empower farmers with knowledge & skills related to sustainable agroforestry farming practices and provide employment opportunities for the local communities, thereby improving their livelihoods.
In line with the above, ROAM is seeking to engage a qualified service provider to offer services related to establishment and management of agroforestry tree nursery in Rutsiro District.
3.1. Overall Objective
The project objective is to secure biodiversity and carbon benefits while simultaneously
strengthening the resilience of livelihoods through forest landscape restoration and the upscaling of clean technologies in Rutsiro district. The project will advance restoration of the degraded forest landscape, enhancing both productive and environmental values. It will work concurrently in the major elements of the landscape - rehabilitating forests and biodiversity within the existing reserves, enhancing sustainable land management on agricultural lands, and increasing the productivity of an expanded woodlot. In addition, planted fruit trees are further expected to diversify revenue streams, as well as provide a source of food for local consumption.
4. Expected output/deliverables
Leucaena diversifolia(29,398 seedlings),Mangifera indica (16,940 seedlings), Persea Americana (18,500 seedlings),Calliandra calothyrsus (26,982 seedlings), Ficus thonningii (7,000 seedlings), Grevillea robusta(21,500 seedlings),
Bambusa vulgaris (10,830 seedlings), Markhamia lutea(8,850 seedlings).
The assignment will be undertaken in 24months.
