Contract Type: Individual Consultancy (IC)
Post level: Senior Consultant (1)
Duration: 20 Working Days
Expected Start Date: Upon Signing the Contract
BACKGROUND
Lactation Amenorrhea Method also referred to as LAM, is a family planning method that allows mothers to rely on breastfeeding as a family planning method safely. Based on scientific evidence, the LAM method uses three measures of a woman’s fertility; the first is the return of her menstrual period, the second is her patterns of breastfeeding, and the third is her baby aged less than 6 months. With accurate use, this method is 98% effective against pregnancy for the first 6 months after giving birth.
Exclusive breastfeeding is recommended for the first six months of life; however, as a child grows, solid foods are introduced, reducing breastfeeding patterns. Therefore, when one criterion is not met, mothers are always advised to transition from LAM to any other FP method to reduce the chance of pregnancy. It is in this regard that HDI is going to conduct qualitative research to understand women’s perceptionsof the transition from LAM to any other FP method.
