The Laboratory Services Team (LST) is a key source of support for Ministries of Health and CHAI’s country teams. LST works to address barriers to access and foster a healthy, competitive marketplace for essential diagnostic testing. The team coordinates global efforts access to diagnostics, working closely with diagnostics manufacturers, governments, and multilateral organizations to lower prices, increase access to testing, and accelerate the entry and uptake of new innovative products.


Position:
The Senior Manager, Country Support will oversee LST’s team of Country Support Managers (CSMs), whose portfolios span across 15 countries and 3 disease areas (HIV, TB, and HCV). CSMs work with country teams to ensure the rapid scale-up and effective management of high-quality diagnostics for endemic diseases by providing insight on policy and operations optimization, program design and implementation best practices, and support of forecasting and procurement of essential diagnostic products. The Senior Manager will oversee LST’s county support team, leading strategy, maintaining alignment between country teams and LST, and working through the team members to achieve of program objectives across countries.


The Senior Manager will play an important role in global negotiations with diagnostics manufacturers to lower prices, and with the development of new procurement strategies such as instrument rental deals to enable easier product switching. She/he will ensure that partner country considerations are factored into LST’s market-shaping strategy in order to engender sustained competition in the global diagnostics market. In doing so, the Senior Manager will develop strong relationships with various teams within CHAI, Ministries of Health, diagnostics manufacturers, and partners in partner countries.


The role requires frequent, extended travel, the ability to cultivate and sustain relationships across levels of seniority, and exceptional qualitative and quantitative analytical abilities. Time management, task prioritization, team leadership, and communication skills are essential, as is a commitment to excellence.


Responsibilities

  • Manage a cross-sectoral team by establishing program goals and delivery plan, supervising task execution, and monitoring project progress to ensure that expected deliverables and targets are achieved on time and on budget
  • Craft and execute comprehensive work-plans with CSMs and country teams in line with LST objectives and commitments
  • Provide technical guidance in development, implementation and management of evidence-based programming consistent with organizational and international best practices, national health plans, and CHAI’s strategic plans
  • Engender practice of sharing best practices within team, and by extension country programs, to ensure strategies, tools and planning processes build upon prior experience and learnings
  • Keep LST leadership and CSM team members informed of country and global activities so that each can fully anticipate programmatic needs
  • Work with LST leadership todevelop and maintain strong internal and external relations, including but not limited to country teams and leadership, and public and private sector partners
  • Manage collection of procurement data, development of forecasts, and communication of findings with internal and external partners
  • Identify and develop new program and funding opportunities and develop and manage relationships with existing and potential donors
  • Perform other tasks as necessary

Qualifications

  • Experience working in management consulting, business strategy groups, or similar fast-paced results-oriented environments
  • A minimum of 5 years’ professional work experience
  • Experience managing and developing program plans and budgets
  • Ability to navigate government processes with multiple stakeholders
  • Ability to problem solve without extensive structural or operational support
  • Able to adapt and guide team members within dynamic environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare and deliver compelling presentations and work on analyses at varying levels of granularity
  • Technical proficiency with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Fluent in English, proficiency in both written and verbal
  • Strong analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in laboratory sciences or business administration
  • Previous work experience in sub-Saharan Africa
  • Lab and diagnostics-related experience, either in a programmatic or clinical setting
  • Familiarity with global health issues, particularly HIV, HCV, and TB
