Background: Twin and Twin Trading
Twin is a non-profit organisation which owns its own trading company. This unique structure allows us to combine trading, marketing and programs to build market systems that deliver better livelihoods for farmer groups in coffee producing countries. Established in 1985, Twin has a strong track record for connecting actors along the value chain, to facilitate deep and global partnerships between small holder producers and their customers. To complete the team in East Africa based in our regional hub in Kigali we are looking for a Programme Officer. This is an opportunity for the right person to work close to the team in Kigali and London on the delivery of our programme across East Africa.


Main Purpose of the Job
The job is part of the Producer Partnership Programmes (PPP) team and supports the operation of African coffee projects from the Kigali office. This role involves a mix of project coordination, budget tracking, building capacity and providing inputs and ideas to streamline systems and processes.

Reports to the East Africa Regional Manager but work very closely with the field officers, finance, MEL as well as marketing and trading team based in London.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
Project Delivery

  • Plan and coordinate project delivery including maintaining records, collating internal reports and monitoring expenditure against budgets
  • Project work planning and monitoring activities against agreed plans
  • Gathering narrative and financial information for donor reporting, collection of monitoring and evaluation data in coordination with MEL officer
    Business Development
  • Supporting development of new projects/initiatives in the East African coffee programme
    Internal Management
  •  Build and support capacity and systems in Kigali office
  • Contribute with ideas and inputs to improve our ways of working
    Other
  • Support internal communication within Twin and provide information for social media updates and other external communication purposes
  • Any other reasonable duty as may be assigned

Qualifications and experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in international development or related subject
  • Minimum two years’ experience project support officers or similar roles
  • Experience in tracking multimillion budgets
  •  Experience of project cycle management from planning to implementing, tracking and evaluating
  • Experience in monitoring, evaluation and reporting
  • Experience in working on coffee (as a plus)
  •  Experience in capacity building and organisational support (desirable).


Skills and abilities

  • Accuracy and attention to details
  • Proven ability to plan, coordinate and monitor project activities
  • Proven ability to work with financial information, preparing and tracking budgets in excel
  • Good communication skills (written and oral)
  • Language skill: English and French as a must, Kinyarwanda and Kirundi preferred
  • Proactive approach
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work in multicultural environments


Knowledge

  • Of smallholder agricultural and producer organizations
  • Of the donor’s requirement and grant management
  • Of coffee production and marketing (desirable)


Package
Hours of work: this is a Full Time contract (8 hours a day)
Location: Kigali
Salary: depending on experience
Contract conditions: permanent upon completion of 3 months’ probation period
Holiday allowance: 20 days per year plus bank holidays and other statutory holidays
