Job Description

  • Plan improvements to the network to ensure that the network is able to support current and future demands placed on it
  • Actively create and maintain plans for future infrastructure maintenance and services
  • check new computer equipment on arrival and install as appropriate
  • maintain computer peripheral equipment such as scanners, printers, whiteboards, projectors; ensure that these are prepared and ready to be used
  • liaise with external suppliers for the repair of equipment under warranty or maintenance contract
  • Coordinates project delivery by participating in design reviews and walk throughs to communicate systems designs and validate proposed solutions
  • Collection, analysis, review, documentation and communication of business needs and requirements
  • Understanding and implementing the business issues and data challenges of client's Institution/Ministry
  • Identifies client organization’s strengths and weaknesses and suggests areas of improvement.
  • Reviews and edits requirements, specifications, business processes and recommendations related to proposed solution.

IT Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Computer Systems (Software and Hardware) and Servers:
  • Troubleshoot and solve any hardware/software issues reported by CHAI Rwanda staff to minimize the downtime.
  • Act as a primary administrative contact for IT issues in country and vis a vis HQ
  • Install operating systems and business packages software as well as perform repair as needed.
  • General monthly check of systems performance;
  • Ensure that all programs installed are safe and genuine copies and no unauthorized software is installed;
  • Ensure that antivirus software are installed and updated;
  • Ensure server, firewall and domain controller are up and running;
  • Schedule regular preventive maintenance of all IT equipment;
  • Check system logs for conflicts, software faults and potential hardware faults;
  • Perform regular check of domain and file server, network equipment, ups and CCTV system
  • Report any critical or unresolved issue to the Procurement and Admin. Coordinator and/or any other person indicated by the employer.
  • Work closely with HQ IT on helpdesk, network, domain, encryption and IT security issues.
  • Work with vendors of genuine IT equipment and IT consumables in coordination with procurement team

Key responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the management and maintenance of all computer systems in the office as and when applicable, resolving issues electronically while ensuring that all system-based requirements and maintenance of IT systems are in place with support from the regional and global teams.
  • Assessment of requirements on purchase of hardware/software for the office, working in close coordination with Logistics for technical validation of purchase requests.

  • Effective data management of the office server, including disaster recovery that ensures data is backed up and restoration tested regularly to safeguard business continuity.
  • Organize and conduct formal staff induction and build users’ capacity on recommended IS practices and offer specific application skills training as required.
  • Support programmes in implementing and maintaining applications that assist them in their day to day work while ensuring that all software and hardware installed in the Rwanda Programme offices comply with OGB IS policies and global standards.
  • Administration and maintenance of the of the Network Integrated and Unified Communication system in the Kigali office.
  • Country focal point for systems upgrade, software installation, updates and maintenance, global project rollouts, and all other IT related issues including ICT4D in Rwanda Country Programme.
  • Be responsible for submitting monthly reports to the IS Service Manager on I.T issues in Rwanda Programme.
  • Effective management of the Rwanda Service Now stack aimed at ensuring that requests and incidents reported by users are resolved within the laid-out Service Level Agreement thresholds.
  • Working with, management and evaluation of external IT suppliers and contracts to ensure that the Programme is getting value for money for all goods and services procured.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor network performance potential and recommend for future adjustments and changes to improve connectivity across the Campus.
  • Supervise University network infrastructure – routers, switches, cabling, and other network components to ascertain optimal functionality.
  • Oversee the growth of the University wireless network and provide input in scaling of the network in its growth.
  • Monitor the University network for malicious or other activity that violates the University’s use policy and perform remedial actions to protect the network infrastructure.
  • Assist in the planning and designing of network systems in accordance with university IT standards to ensure compliance.
  • Provide, install, troubleshoot and support wired and wireless network access devices, and other structured cabling systems for inside Campus services.
  • Maintain network documentation and databases for network access devices, Voice, digital signage, and security cameras systems.
  • Assist with service interruptions classification, prioritization, institute of corrective action, documentation and analyse interruptions facts for future reference.
  • Develop network design strategy and roadmap including core network architecture, IP, DNS/DHCP, VLAN strategy, establishment of engineering standards and best practice guides.

  • Implement and manage Radius based authentication with local and remote Auth sources.
  • QoS with Voice and Data traversed network.
  • Manage and maintain Voice over IP system utilized throughout the campus.
  • Monitor and create reporting based on network activities.
  • Provide network connectivity support for AV systems throughout the campus.
  • Monitor and engage with ISPs on Internet bandwidth utilization.
  • Implement new installations and movement of remote locations throughout Butaro Campus, this includes installation of network access devices, digital signage and security camera systems.
    Implement IT strategies and procedures that seek to guide the IT Support Service delivery model;
  • Conduct security risk and vulnerability assessments for defined business applications or IT installations in defined areas to avoid system infiltration;
  • Provide advice and guidance on the application and operation of elementary physical, procedural and technical security controls;
  • Contribute to team effort by support implementation of the Campus IT strategy and ensuring that Campus data protection and network access policy are adhered to; and
  • Promote continuity of service delivery by keeping the team informed of any potential problems and provide possible solutions.
