Internship Opportunity
• IGCP is a coalition of three international conservation organizations: Conservation International (CI), Fauna & Flora, and WWF. IGCP’s mission is to Secure the Future for Mountain Gorillas (Gorilla beringei beringei). The programme operates in the three countries that share the habitat of the mountain gorilla - Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda and Uganda - and works in partnership with the Protected Area Authorities of the three countries (Institute Congolais pour la Conservation de la Nature, ICCN, in DRC; Rwanda Development Board, RDB, in Rwanda; and Uganda Wildlife Authority, UWA, in Uganda) and the Greater Virunga Transboundary Collaboration (GVTC), the umbrella mechanism for transboundary collaboration. IGCP also maintains a large number of partnerships with civil society organizations, community-based organizations, research institutions, private sector and local government.
• IGCP seeks to recruit an intern to assist in the implementation of its collaborative work to monitor Human Wildlife Conflict (HWC) and enhance the use of Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool (SMART) for Ranger Based Monitoring (RBM) activities.
• Work station: Musanze District, Rwanda
• Start date: Immediately
• Duration: Six (6) months
Required Qualifications
• Must be a Rwandan citizen.
• With minimum academic qualification of Advanced Diploma (A1) in Wildlife Management, Ecology or any relevant field to Biodiversity Conservation and Natural Resource Management from a recognized University/Institution.
• Graduated not before the last three (3) years.
• Knowledge and use of Computer/GIS in data collection, download and analysis.
Required Skills and Competencies
• Ability to work independently under minimal supervision, and flexible to work outside official hours.
• Ability to work with multi-cultural local and international team members.
• Ability and willingness to work in very challenging and physically demanding field conditions within VNP.
• Demonstrated ability to coordinate tasks to meet deadlines and achieve results.
• Proficient in English with ability to write reports and communicate in a clear and concise manner.
• Commitment to ethical standards, social safeguards, transparency and good governance.

Specific tasks shall include:
• Regular field work together with park staff in the Volcanoes National Park (VNP) to monitor RBM data collection using SMART.
• Data downloading, cleaning and management in SMART.
• Assist in report generation through SMART.
• Regular field visits around VNP to monitor HWC data collection.
• HWC data downloading, cleaning and management.
• Assist in HWC data analysis and reporting.
• Perform any other duties as required.
