JOB DETAILS:
  Ethical Tea Partnership is UK based not for profit organization that works to improve the sustainability of tea production, the lives of workers and the environment in which tea is produced. Currently, ETP has secured funds from GIZ to implement Farmer Field Schools (FFS) and Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLAs) within Rwandan tea growing areas.
Job Summary:
ETP in collaboration with partner tea cooperatives seeks qualified candidates, holding a high school certificate, for a one year contract with a three-month probation period. They will be responsible for ensuring high quality, results-oriented program implementation and timely achievement of project milestones and objectives. The Field Officer will be responsible for implementing and monitoring Farmer Field School and VSL work within groups of tea farmers..

  Primary responsibilities:
• Ensure quality, timely implementation of FFS programme, including training on good agricultural practices for tea production.
• Deliver/coordinate delivery of other key trainings on non-tea topics such as non-tea crop production, vegetable gardening, and basic hygiene and sanitation.
• Build the capacity of farmers in savings and loan activities
• Ensure quality, timely implementation of VSL programme including data collection of savings activities.
• Monitoring and evaluation of activities
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with partner cooperatives to achieve the program goal.
• Any other tasks as required.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
Capacity-building of farmers on Good Agricultural practices
• With support from cooperatives, organize farmers into groups of 25 farmers.
• Ensure quality, timely implementation of FFS programme, including distribution of inputs and delivery of training on good agricultural practices.
• Assist farmers in establishing group-managed demo plots for tea and other non-tea crops.
• Deliver/coordinate delivery of other key trainings on non-tea topics such as non-tea crop production, vegetable gardening and basic hygiene and sanitation.
Capacity-building of VSL groups VSL methodology
• Train VSL committees to facilitate savings and lending sessions
• Facilitate savings and lending sessions
• Provide training to VSL members on SAVIX MIS forms
• Provide training on financial literacy skills
• Build the capacity of select members to become village agents
• Supervise village agents to autonomously lead savings activities.
Monitoring and evaluation:
• Collate monthly data from each group on yield and quality of demo plots of their zone.
• Collect data on other crop production and sales
• Ensure that record keeping is properly and regularly done
• Prepare quarterly reports
Program Management and Administration
• Ensure strong collaboration with program stakeholders through regular communication and meetings, field visits and joint action planning.
• Ensure compliance with all ETP/GIZ administrative and operational procedures and policies.

• A2 certificate in Agronomy or related qualification
• Experience teaching others
• Experience of good agricultural practices related to tea farming essential
• Knowledge of savings group methodology desirable
• Proven skills in designing and facilitating training sessions.
• Business/ entrepreneurship skills are an advantage
• Proven ability to think critically to solve problems that arise during program implementation.
• Monitoring and evaluation skills
• Flexibility to work both in a team and independently.
• Oral and written both English and Kinyarwanda
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel
