Wellspring is dedicated to cultivating leadership and delivering high-quality, Christian values-based education development in Africa. As we celebrate two decades of partnering to transform education in Africa, we are seeking a passionate and visionary Executive Director (ED) to build on our legacy and lead Wellspring in fulfilling our mission.
Position Summary
The Executive Director will serve as the chief visionary and strategic leader, reporting directly to the Board of Directors. This role involves spearheading strategic planning, ensuring financial sustainability, cultivating local leadership, and positioning Wellspring at the forefront of meaningful and sustainable educational development. The ED will be based in Kigali, Rwanda, with regular travel to Canada for Board meetings and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate will inspire a collaborative environment across regions and embody our Christ-centered values.
Key Responsibilities
Christ-Centered Leadership
• Model a personal lifestyle that reflects biblical principles and Christian values.
• Frame a shared understanding of how faith-based principles shape our approach to education and leadership.
Strategic Direction
• Establish and communicate a compelling vision for Wellspring’s future, aligning with our mission and values.
• Balance strategic oversight with operational realities, ensuring day-to-day operations align with long-term goals.
• Lead the development and implementation of a comprehensive strategic plan with input from key stakeholders.
Advancement & Stakeholder Engagement
• Drive advancement strategies, including fundraising, donor relations, and partnership development to ensure financial sustainability.
• Build and empower a development team to achieve fundraising goals.
• Cultivate strategic partnerships and effectively communicate Wellspring’s mission and impact to external audiences.
Organizational Culture and People Stewardship
• Cultivate a healthy organizational culture that prioritizes team wellbeing and development.
• Maintain a collaborative relationship with the Board and engage team members in decision-making.
• Build a team of mission-driven leaders and invest in their growth through mentorship and development opportunities.
• Champion a culture of accountability and shared purpose, empowering teams to take ownership of their work and contribute to organizational goals.
Qualifications & Requirements
Candidates will be assessed based on the following minimum qualifications:
• Deep commitment to Christ-centered values and mission-driven work.
• A post-secondary degree (bachelor’s degree or higher) in nonprofit management, education, or a related field, along with at least 7 years of relevant experience, including senior leadership in a cross-cultural setting.
• Proven leadership experience in a nonprofit or similar environment
• Deep understanding of the education landscape in Africa, especially Rwanda.
• Strong understanding of financial management and fundraising strategies, as well as a commitment to partner development.
• A strong network of sector-related contacts and the ability to cultivate and maintain partnerships that support Wellspring’s mission.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse audiences.
