JOB DETAILS:
Job Purpose:
The E&S Risk Management Specialist will work hand in hand with our Customer facing staff and our clients to ensure due regard of environmental, social, and human rights impact and risk considerations throughout the investment process.
Key Responsibilities for this role are:
• Appraising the environmental, social and human rights impacts and risks of I&M (Rwanda) Plc's investments, taking into account local E&S regulation and international standards such as the IFC Performance Standards on Environmental and Social Sustainability (IFC PS) and the UNGP on Business and Human Rights. Defining and agreeing with I&M (Rwanda) Plc's investment staff, other financing
• partners and clients on actions required to uphold the requirements of the IFC PS;
• Managing of E&S consultants' scope of work, deliverables, and their monitoring. Negotiation (and compliance monitoring and modification) of legal documentation related to credible remedial E&S actions.
• Managing the existing portfolio and reporting from an E&S perspective adequately in I&M (Rwanda) Plc's internal systems.
• Providing input, upon request, to I&M (Rwanda) Plc's grievance mechanism, and liaising with external stakeholders (for example, the Rwandan Government, Central Bank, local communities and / or NGOs) as necessary.
• Contributing to I&M (Rwanda) Plc's Sustainability ambitions in the field of environmental, social and human rights impact and risk management including enhancement of I&M (Rwanda) Plc's internal Management Information System. Identifying capacity development opportunities and providing training and
• coaching on environmental, social and human rights issues to I&M (Rwanda) Plc investment staff and other internal stakeholders.
• Enhancing I&M (Rwanda) Plc's corporate knowledge base by analyzing and disseminating lessons learned and best practices from the bank's investments.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required:
• Master's degree in an environmental, social, interdisciplinary, or other relevant science. At least 5 years or more of relevant working experience.
• Applied knowledge of and experience with IFC PS. A record of accomplishment in working with/for private sector firms to identify environmental, social and/or human rights risks, prioritizing them, and developing mitigation measures in line with good international industry practice.
• Experience with conducting ESIA and or E&S due diligence is a plus.
• Independent execution of environmental, social and/or Human Rights appraisal and monitoring of private sector E&S performance.
• Advising private sector clients on adherence to international best practices.
• The ability to think strategically and to analyze and
• synthetize diverse environmental/social,
• commercial, and business information.
• Preferably experience to engage with vulnerable communities and Civil society.
• Representing I&M (Rwanda) Plc at technical subject matter meetings, industry events, and environmental, social or human rights fora.
