Job Title

Education and Training Consultants – STELIR, Rwanda 

Role Purpose

British Council runs a wide range of programmes across Rwanda and requires the expertise of Education and Training consultants to carry out a range of duties for its programmes, including training, materials review and development, transcription and translation and attending workshops. 

This request for applications aims to build a pool of consultants with expertise to carry out professional services in education and training, when demands arise from British Council projects to support the delivery of learning products, training, and research for programmes across Rwanda and sometimes in the region. Please note, we are unable to guarantee the frequency or volume of activity awarded to associates within the pool over the 24-month duration of the contract.

About the role of the specialist contractor 

The Education and training consultants may be called upon for professional services including, but not limited to: 

  • Teacher training and mentoring 
  • Undertaking teacher observations and providing feedback 
  • English language materials review and development 
  • Transcription services in both Kinyarwanda and English 
  • Translation services in both Kinyarwanda and English 
  • Attending education sector workshops 

Duties may be carried out virtually or face to face. In any case where the Education and Training consultant is required to travel outside of Kigali to undertake the task, travel and accommodation will be covered by British Council and the consultant will be entitled to overnight incidental allowances, set by British Council for any overnight stays. The base for work will be considered to be Kigali, therefore if consultants live outside of the capital they will not be provided with transport and accommodation in the city for regular work or meetings held within Kigali.

Outcomes and Outputs 

The Education and training consultants will be expected to provide consultancy services to British Council to high quality and working to deadlines. The outputs will be communicated and set out to the consultant by the STELIR Academic Manager. 

Timeline 

The Education and training consultant will be contracted for 24 months and will be called upon when the need arises. Please note, we are unable to guarantee the frequency or volume of activity awarded to consultants within the pool over the 24-month duration of the contract.

Fee & expenses 

The Education and training consultant will receive an hourly and daily rate align to British Council Rwanda rates. For any travel outside of Kigali, British Council will cover travel and accommodation and for any overnight stays, the consultant shall be entitled to an overnight incidental allowance set by British Council. Travel/overnight allowances will not be paid for work and meetings that take place in Kigali. 

Reporting and communication 

The Education and training consultants will report to STELIR Academic Manager

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • An English-teaching qualification, particularly in CELTA/CTESOL and/or MEd, MA TESOL or PGCE 
  • Background in English language teaching and training experience in Rwanda 
  • Background of materials development in Rwanda 
  • Proven track record of teacher training and/ or mentoring experience 

Role Specific knowledge and experience 

  • Your English language teaching qualifications 
  • Examples of previous similar work in Rwanda 
  • Brief explanation of how your previous experience has equipped you to complete this work efficiently and to high quality standards.
  • Candidates with appropriate qualifications and experience will be contacted to undertake an interview to further discuss their experience about the consultancy role.

Further Information 

Consultancy Duration – 24 months (on-call base work)

Location – Kigali, Rwanda

Language: Good English writing skills is a mandatory requirement.

Requirements â€“ All applicants should have a pre-existing legal status to live and work in Rwanda. The British Council will not facilitate/sponsor visa applications and work permit.
