JOB DETAILS:
The Dean of Students has three main responsibilities: chaplaincy, discipline and overseeing the residential life of students. The Dean of Students is responsible for overseeing administrative, behavioral, the vital role in nurturing and sustaining the Christian ethos of the school, and academic progress of students. His/her duties involve managing student activities, enforcing disciplinary measures when necessary, and working with other school departments to ensure that all student programs run smoothly. Also, chaplain, lead the formal and informal expression of Christian ethos and worship at the school and support the spiritual life of the school community .
Responsibilities:
Residential life:
• Coordinates the residential life program.
• Managing students’ pocket money.
• Organize new student orientation sessions and activities.
• Advise and participate in student clubs and organizations.
• Attend and support student events.
• Enforce school policy and procedures for students and staff.
• Assist admissions process in reviewing student applications.
• Contact and meet with parents when necessary in liaison with the school principal.
• Attend student fairs and higher education conferences for professional development.
• Organize visiting day with direct supervision of the secondary school principal.
Chaplaincy:
• To support the School’s Pastoral Care Program by providing pastoral and spiritual support to students, staff, and families
• To oversee the spiritual formation program of students including chapels, bible study groups, worship teams, and mission trips
• To promote the philosophy of Christian education at school.
• To encourage students to engage in meaningful dialogue regarding spirituality, religion, values, and ethics, with an attitude of respectful inquiry
• To build and maintain a network of support agencies, Churches and community groups who can provide a broad range of services to students and the wider community in line with the statement of Faith of YFC/Rwanda
Discipline:
• Address and resolve student behavioral issues (bearing in mind that we practice redemptive discipline).
• Refer students to counselors as necessary.
• Attend disciplinary hearings at all times.
• Write up student conduct reports.
• Maintain files of all student activities, meetings, investigations, and disciplinary issues.
• Support the school principal to implement the child protection policy and other student’s related policies.
Student Education and Staff Support:
• To develop rapport and positive relationships with students, parents, and staff by seeking opportunities to meet and mingle
• Assist in the development of programs for academic success and participate in career guidance for students
• As a member of the school team, to seek to contribute and attend all school events (for example assemblies, camps, excursions, sports days, etc.)
• Act as a liaison between Residential Life students, day students, staff and school management.
• Participant an extra duties as assigned by the management
Knowledge and Skills:
• Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;
• Familiar with Rwandan curriculum and its education system details;
• Fluent in English and the knowledge ether French or Kinyarwanda will be an added advantage;
• Able to motivate students and colleagues;
• Familiar with various learning styles, teaching techniques, and ways of evaluation;
Personal Qualities:
• A degree of maturity of Christian faith which will give integrity to the ministry with students, staff and parents
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
• University degree in Theology and additional training in education will be an added advantage
• Previous experience in positions of leadership in a school setting;
• Experience with training and supervising others;
• Training in counseling is essential • Follower of Jesus Christ and actively involved in a local church;
• Passion to serve and work hard;
• Self-disciplined and teachable;
• Experience as a teacher;
• Passion to see students and staff reach their full potential;
• A readiness to work in a team situation
• Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
• Interpersonal skills of a high order, particularly in motivating young people
• Demonstrated interest in ongoing professional development
• A disciplined personal with passion for cleanliness
