JOB DETAILS:
The Rwanda Climate Change and Development Network (RCCDN), through the funding from a consortium composed of Trōcaire, the Scottish Catholic International Aid Fund (SCIAF) and Christian Blind Mission (CBM) UK is implementing the Climate Just Communities (CJC) Program in Kavumu, Kageyo, and Muhanda sectors of Ngororero District. To support the program's goals, RCCDN seeks to evaluate the feasibility of rainwater harvesting in the above-mentioned sectors (Kageyo, Kavumu and Muhanda), considering factors such as rainfall patterns, available roof and soil conditions, and other relevant criteria.
Objective of the Study
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of implementing rainwater harvesting systems both at household in Kavumu, Kageyo, and Muhanda sectors of Ngororero District. This includes assessing rainfall patterns, roof availability, soil conditions, and other environmental and technical factors.
Scope of Work
The consultant will be required to:
• Conduct a thorough analysis of rainfall patterns in Kageyo, Kavumu and Muhanda sectors of Ngororero District.
• Assess the availability and suitability of roofs for rainwater harvesting.
• Evaluate soil conditions to determine the potential for water storage and absorption.
• Analyze other environmental and technical factors that may influence the feasibility of rainwater harvesting.
• Engage with the community to incorporate their insights and preferences into the study.
• Provide a comprehensive report with recommendations on the feasibility of rainwater harvesting in the targeted sectors.
Methodology
The consultant is expected to use a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, including:
• Reviewing existing meteorological data and climate studies.
• Conducting field visits to assess physical conditions.
• Engaging with community members through interviews and focus group discussions.
• Using GIS tools to map and analyze geographical data.
Deliverables
The consultant will deliver:
• An inception report outlining the study approach and methodology within the first three days of the contract.
• A draft report with initial findings and recommendations one week into the study.
• A final comprehensive report detailing the feasibility of rainwater harvesting in Kavumu, Kageyo, and Muhanda sectors, including maps, data analyses, community insights, and practical recommendations.
Duration
The study will be conducted over a period of two weeks, starting from the date of contract signature.
Required Qualifications and Experience
• Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Water Resources Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
• Proven experience in conducting feasibility studies related to water resources and rainwater harvesting.
• Strong analytical and GIS skills.
• Experience in community engagement and participatory research methods.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.
