Overview of the Organization

UNABU stands for Umuryango Nyarwanda w‘Abagore Bafite Ubumuga, translated into English as the Rwandan Organization of Women with disabilities. It is a non-governmental organization aiming at promoting gender equality and the removal of various barriers preventing girls and women with disabilities from fully enjoying their human rights and participating in the country’s development. The organization was established in 2004 women with various disabilities and for women with disabilities envisioning a world where “Women with disabilities enjoy equal and equitable opportunities and actively participate in the country's development. UNABU empowers girls and women with disabilities to become the agent of change, to demand their rights and to affirm their dignity as human beings. Since its creation the organization has been implementing projects of capacity building of local groups of women with disabilities, strengthening the voices of women with disabilities in community development and empowering individual women with disabilities in income generating activities, human right, gender and gender-based violence in Rwanda.

Job Purpose Statement
UNABU seeks to hire a highly qualified, dedicated and experienced accountant responsible for organizational finance and logistics. The accountant works closely with the Executive Director and the project's managers for organizational and projects budgeting and financial reporting

Key Roles and Responsibilities
The Accountant will work directly under the supervision of the Executive Director and work closely with project officers/Managers and other UNABU staff. The accountant will be responsible for the following key tasks:

  • Budget and manage UNABU Financial resources;
  • Ensure regular follow up of the UNABU annual budget implementation with particular attention to comparing projects budgeted costs to actual costs;
  • Maintain accurate financial records and files in accordance with donor and internal procedures;
  • Coordinate the process of preparation of financial reports to be submitted to donors by the Executive Director
  • Elaborate and consolidate organizationally and projects financial periodic reports ;
  • Prepare quarterly organizational financial statements;
  • Prepare monthly bank and petty cash reconciliation in a timely manner;
  • Prepare, examine, and analyze accounting records, financial statements, and other financial reports to ensure accuracy, completeness, and conformance to reporting requirements as per partnership agreements and UNABU procedures.
  • Monitor UNABU budget, bank accounts movements, and financial expenditures and their conformity to the work-plan and produce financial reports
  • Review and examine the records of donor, government agencies and ensure compliance.
  • Advise the Organization for appropriate policies for the effective management of UNABU finances.
  • Ensure internal control and follow the implementation of recommendations from internal and external auditors,
  • Prepare monthly payroll and other payments requests related to the procurement and acquisition of services
  • Collect needed documentation for procurement and acquisition of services including request for quotation and proforma invoice
  • Work closely with the administrative assistant on updating UNABU assets inventory and maintaining the integrity and safeguard of assets, stocks, and property
  • To carry out other duties as requested by the supervisor towards UNABU overall goal.

Requirements for the position

Educational Qualifications:

  • Minimum Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting.

Job-related experience:

  • Have at least 3 years of accounting and/or finance experience preferably with NGO
  • Professional qualification in accounting software is a surplus

Technical skills:

  • Additional skill sets/experience in budgeting, forecasting, business planning, procurement, contract management, management of statutory audits and tax reporting Technical skills:
  • Strong report writing skills and fluent communication skills in English, as well as Kinyarwanda, required
  • Computer literacy: Microsoft word, spreadsheet, power point, Internet
