Global Disability Innovation Hub (GDI Hub) is a research and practice centre driving disability innovation for a fairer world www.disabilityinnovation.com. More than a product, a service or policy, disability innovation is a way of thinking to address disability challenges by co-designing solutions and sharing knowledge. We are solutions-focused experts in Assistive Technology, Inclusive Design, and Culture & Participation and currently work across five domains:
Research: creating new knowledge, solutions and products
Innovation: growing inclusive innovation ecosystems
Programmes: testing what works
Teaching: learning and sharing knowledge
Advocacy: evidence-based outreach
Based in East London and a legacy of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, GDI Hub is composed of an Academic Research Centre (ARC) led by University College London (UCL) and a Community Interest Company (CIC) and is guided by an Advisory Board of disabled people. This appointment is to the CIC, a growing SME, not-for-profit Community Interest Company.
We currently have about 35 live projects, operate in 33 countries and have a total portfolio value of approximately £50m.

ROLE PURPOSE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• A landscape review of information and communication technologies for disability-inclusive education
Background
• The GDI Hub have been contracted to conduct a landscape review of how information and communication technologies (ICT) are being used within disability-inclusive education for the World Bank. This work is taking place between November 2020 and June 2021 in five priority countries: Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Bangladesh and Nepal.
• The work will comprise the following elements/steps
• To gain a clear understanding of how ICT is being used to support the education of learners with different types of disability in different learning arrangements/settings.
• To Identify examples of good practice and case studies of how ICT base solutions and practices have led to improved access learning and outcomes for learners with disabilities; and
• To provide a set of recommendations to strengthen supply and demand side interventions and innovations within the broader components of the accessible EdTech ecosystem. These will include ways to strengthen skills, policies and institutions, and content creation. These may include

SCOPE OF WORK
Line Management: The Research Assistant will report to the Lead Expert (Inclusive Education), Maria Kett.
Duration: A total of seven (7) days between in 01 April – 31 May 2021
Language requirement: Successful applicants must speak at least one of the officially-used languages of the country as well as English.
DELIVERABLES:
Undertake in persons or online interviews with identified key stakeholders using agreed protocol (approx. 15 interviews)
Undertake two focus group discussions with identified key stakeholders as agreed protocol (locations to be agreed). These will be in person or online according to local government covid restrictions.
Transcripts translated from local languages to English language of each interview and focus group and uploaded to secure platform as advised by lead researcher.
Summary of key points in one or two pages (maximum) in English language of each interview and focus group uploaded to secure platform as advised by lead researcher.
Invoice and timesheet for time conducting research. All PPE, transport, communication and admin/stationery/printing are included within the consultancy fee.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF WORK:
The World Bank and GDI Hub will make introductions and confirm willingness of participants to take part in the interviews and focus groups. GDI Hub will also be available to advise on research protocols and methodology including an initial training / induction.
Key activities for the Research Assistant include but are not limited to the following:
• Finalise schedule for interviews and two focus groups with the agreed list of stakeholders;
• Ensure informed consent is obtained and copies of all consent forms sent to research team using the agreed template with GDI Hub;
• Gather attendance information related to participating in the interviews and focus group discussions;
• Conduct interviews and focus groups with agreed stakeholders. Online interviews will be undertaken using secure MS Teams platform
• Transcribe all interviews and focus groups into English and upload to agreed secure platform as advised by lead researcher;
• Summarise key points of each interview and focus group discussions in one or two pages (maximum) in English and upload to secure platform as advised by lead researcher;
• Share all information with GDI Hub Line Manager and then once confirmed and approved delete all information in line with data protection protocols;
• Transcripts and summaries will be shared with GDI Hub before the agreed deadline with GDI Hub (approx. 30th May 2021).
Communication: The Research Assistant will provide regular updates in line with the deliverables and activities above. In the case of any unforeseen issues that may disrupt the data collection or cause any risk to the Research Assistant, Participants, GDI Hub or World Bank the Research Assistant will inform GDI Hub immediately
