JOB DETAILS:
2 Isomo Non-Academic Head Counselors
Over the last 10 years, Bridge2Rwanda has become an expert at bursting the bottlenecks that prevent Rwanda’s brightest students from competing and winning university scholarships. Our experience identifying and preparing Rwanda’s most promising students has given us a deep understanding of the skills gap that continues to limit students’ competitiveness in pursuing higher education, such as English proficiency, critical thinking skills, standardized test preparation and navigating the university admissions process.
To address these issues and broaden our impact, Bridge2Rwanda launched Isomo Academy — an intensive English training and college preparatory program designed to equip Rwanda’s top high school students with the skills they need to compete and win university scholarships inside and outside Rwanda. This program will be fully residential for an 8-week period during the summer.

Isomo Academy is embarking on its second year of establishing a rigorous, rich, fun, and exciting learning experience for each student including activities and community-building outside of the classroom. In Summer 2022, Year 2 Isomo Senior Scholars (rising S6 students) are returning for a second year at Isomo Academy, and we are welcoming a new class of Year 1 Isomo Junior Scholars (rising S5 students) to start the Isomo Academy experience. As we plan and build the second year of this transformational program, we are excited to invite enthusiastic, passionate, high-capacity young leaders to apply for different positions on our team. Our team shares a few things: an infectious passion for learning, excitement for exploring new models of education and youth empowerment, and a fun-loving environment that fosters a sense of accountability, community-engagement, and servant leadership.
Reach out to us at ldreilling@bridge2rwanda.org  or bmugisha@bridge2rwanda.org  for any questions, comments, or ideas about how to make Isomo an excellent place for learning and growth.

About the Position
Bridge2Rwanda’s mission is to build a lifelong fellowship of high-capacity leaders in Africa to accelerate the growth of their countries and improve the lives of others. Isomo Academy, our new flagship program, is designed to expand the fellowship by working with more students during the last two years of high school.

The Head Counselor for Culture will be the backbone of our program’s culture and campus environment. They will work with our Non-Academic Programming Associates to shape Isomo into a highly enriching environment that values curiosity, kindness, inclusivity, and engaged leadership. Team Culture will enrich the program to make it a holistic learning space, giving each student the opportunity to learn, embrace change, take initiative, engage, and lead.

The Head Counselor for Culture will be responsible for the following:
• Work with the Non-Academic Programming team to design and run unique activities that will shape every participant into an engaged critical thinker and community member
• Work with the team to deliver an experience-based entrepreneurial and leadership offering
• Oversee our community building programs, notably having a key role in running Family time, morning devotions, and minutes of gratitude
• Oversee a team of Isomo Fellows in the designing and implementation of community engagement projects
• Take a leading role in envisioning and implementing an enriching weekend programming for everyone at the camp
• Embrace a culture of fun-driven learning, and work to create an environment where every student feels included and engaged in this learning experience
• Work with the Support and College Counseling teams to collect data about student engagement, weekly commentary from teachers and family leaders
• Facilitate the implementation of our program’s character development program and ensure it builds and reinforces our values of kindness, excellence, and accountability
• Work with our Residential Life team to plan fun activities including games, movies nights, etc.

Requirements
This position will require exceptionally passionate individuals with a strong desire to shape cultures and impact younger people. It will equally ask for a serious work ethic, a collaborative spirit, a desire to go beyond the conventional teaching environment, and an outstanding ability to love and spread fun.

• A palpable passion for creating new spaces where curiosity and creativity and community-building are building blocks of learning
• A passion for learning and education, and an interest in designing and running programs that provide the highest educational outcomes
• A basic understanding and interest in effective and research-based tools in creating programs for youth that seek to transform their education goals and career prospects
• A good understanding and appreciation of the context of our students and their communities, their needs and space for improvement
• A resolve to create and try new models of education and youth empowerment
• A passion to make personal development and mental health more accessible
• An ability to work and lead within a fast-paced 8-week program
• Excellent communication skills with diverse audiences: fellow colleagues and young students
• An ability to dance without music will be a plus!

Duration: July 5th- September 30th
