FINANCIAL CONTROLLER:
is a senior staff member at the company concerned with accounting and reports directly to the Finance Manager. The Financial Controller supports the finance department in various accounting topics and helps to improve processes and controls.
The Financial Controller is responsible for 4 key areas:
- Financial reporting.
- Accounting Operations:
- Tax compliance.
- Forecasting
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial reporting
- Ownership of accounting policy implementation and compliance in line with I.F.R.S and group accounting policies
- Review of balance sheet reconciliations and completion of period close
- Manage reconciliation process with other group companies
- Review, preparation and publishing timely of monthly management accounts
- Preparing board reporting and earnings call documents
- Preparing lender reporting documents
- Manage statutory audit process and preparation of statutory accounts.
- Managing all finance and accounting operations
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Accounting Operations:
- Supervise accounting staff and ensure accurate record keeping of all financial transactions.
- Review and approve invoices, expense reports, and other financial documents.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Foster a culture of strong internal controls and compliance within the accounting department
Tax compliance
- Review tax declarations and ensure accuracy and prompt payment of tax liabilities
- Engage with tax consultants regarding changes in the tax law of Rwanda which are likely to impact the company.
Forecasting
- Preparation of company long term forecasts using templates provided by corporate finance
- Preparation of short-term cash flow and covenant forecasts
- Monthly reporting of actuals against budget.
- Develop and manage annual operating budgets for different departments.
- Monitor budget variances and provide explanations to management.
- Prepare financial forecasts to support strategic decision-making.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Member of an accounting professional body CPA/ACCA
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar position.
- Knowledge of financial and accounting software or tools (e.g., Excel, MS Office tools, QuickBooks, SAP or other accounting systems).
- Knowledge of finance and operations systems.
- Good understanding of trends, challenges, opportunities, regulations and legislation relating to renewable energy industry with be an added advantage
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and administration skills
- High ethical standards, integrity and positive attitude
GENERAL BEHAVIORAL (KEY SKILLS REQUIRED)
- Analytical thinking.
- Excellent organizational Skills
- Attention to Detail
- Strong communication interpersonal skills.
- Strong people management skills
- Experience using SQL queries
- Experience using ERP accounting software
- Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures
