JOB DETAILS:
EACC is a private and independent Higher Learning Institution created in 2018 by the Province of the Anglican Church of Rwanda and accredited by Rwanda Governance Board (RGB) and Rwanda high education commission (HEC) in 2021 with the purpose to equip servant leaders for the church and the community and produce Professional graduates of character and commitment that will serve as agents of transformation.
Position overview
Under the supervision of the director of administration and finance (DAF), the accountant will oversee the effective management of company funds, ensure timely payments, and ensure compliance with financial regulations. This role involves managing the company's financial operations, including financial accounting, reporting, and providing strategic financial advice to the DAF.
Main Responsibilities
Financial accounting
• Verify and process all invoices related to suppliers of goods, works, and services, ensuring that supporting documents are attached.
• Perform daily data entry of accounting transactions using the QuickBooks system, adhering to the approved chart of accounts.
• Submit invoices and payment requests to the DAF for approval, ensuring all supporting documents are included.
• Produce payment vouchers for review by the DAF and approval by the DPAF.
• Prepare purchase orders for confirmed quotations and enter them in QuickBooks system.
• Analyze accounting and inventory records to ensure accuracy and compliance with reporting standards.
• Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the general ledger, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and journal entries.
• Record bank transactions, perform reconciliations, and manage petty cash disbursements.
• Update asset register records, depreciation schedules, and reconcile with the QuickBooks system.
• Monitor institution expenses to ensure compliance with institution policies and accurate allocation to analytical accounts.
• Conduct quarterly physical inventory counts for all EACC’s assets and reconcile with the QuickBooks system.
• Establish and maintain a reliable and comprehensive filing system for company financial documents.
Financial reporting
• Prepare quarterly financial statements and submit them to the DAF by the 15th of the following month.
• Assist in the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including the statement of profit or loss, financial position, changes in equity, and cash flow.
• Support management reporting by providing accurate and timely financial data and analysis.
• Prepare and maintain schedules for revenue recognition and project accounting using the percentage of completion method.
Tax and Regulatory Compliance
• Prepare and file tax returns accurately and in a timely manner;
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of all tax-related transactions and ensure they are reported according to Rwandan tax laws;
• Stay informed about changes and updates in tax laws and regulations affecting the construction industry and other relevant sectors;
Qualifications and experiences
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Management.
• Candidate must hold a Professional qualification in accounting such as ACCA or CPA
• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a finance or accounting role. Knowledge of the educational sectors is an advantage.
Knowledge
• Solid knowledge of financial and accounting procedures.
• Deep understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
• Knowledge of preparing and analyzing institution’s financial statements.
• Understanding of local tax regulations and compliance requirements.
• Experience in preparing and reviewing tax returns and managing tax audits.
• Knowledge of electronic and paper filing systems.
• Familiar with any or multiple financial management and accounting software’s. (ex: QuickBooks, Sage, highly preferred.
• Good computer skills and extensive knowledge of Excel, Word and Power Point.
Required skills
• Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and make recommendations based on insights.
• Precision in reviewing financial documents and ensuring accuracy in reporting.
• Capacity to identify discrepancies and inconsistencies in financial data.
• Proficiency in resolving complex accounting issues and discrepancies.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for interacting with management, auditors, and other stakeholders.
